I will give someone $10,000 if they can name SOMEONE who can step in and actually do something.

No, let the process play out. Outside intervention won’t help. Did we not learn from the labor movement from the 1930s?

The CEOs of the Class 1 railroads could step in and do something, but they're too concerned with buying their 23rd super yacht to care about the lives of their employees.David Collins wrote: ↑Mon Oct 10, 2022 7:15 pmhttps://www.nbcnews.com/business/busine ... -rcna51543

IMO the investment firms that have major stakes in the railroads are the bigger problem. Everything Black Rock touches ends up being bad for average citizens.PerRock wrote: ↑Tue Oct 11, 2022 4:01 pmThe CEOs of the Class 1 railroads could step in and do something, but they're too concerned with buying their 23rd super yacht to care about the lives of their employees.David Collins wrote: ↑Mon Oct 10, 2022 7:15 pmhttps://www.nbcnews.com/business/busine ... -rcna51543

Good to see the MOW side stand up to this. I am very disappointed with my group, spineless.....

Talk about ineptness and incompetent, they could screw up a free lunch, then blame someone else for their failure(s).Congress.

Yup, but they’re the ones legally allowed to end the strike or lockout should one occur.

Second rail union rejects deal with freight railroads, elevating chance of strike
All the 12 rail unions must ratify any new agreement to avoid a potential work stoppage

Re: I thought we defused the railroad strike bomb...
How about someone who DID something? I know a guy who after 15+ years at CN quit and went to work for a short line. He said he makes less but lives a better life. He knows when his days off are, he's home every night and doesn't spend weekends and holidays in Chicago waiting to get sent back east.
The quality of life issue is a can they have all kicked down the road for decades. For decades they have accepted higher than average pay rather than quality of life.
It's a game of chicken. None of them, the brotherhoods, carriers or the fed want a strike. They all have to make the same decision. Take a strike to get what they want or accept what they get at the bargaining table. There is no someone who can make that decision for them.

While engineers labor union appears to have agreed to not strike, conductor's union did not agree today.
"SMART Transportation Division, which represents the country’s rail conductors, announced on Monday that its members declined to ratify the agreement. Workers at a dozen unions involved in the railroad negotiations have until Dec. 9 to approve the agreement, or the United States could face the prospect of economically devastating rail strikes. "

Someone needs to explain the difference between a freight train and a passenger train to the local media.

While the striking unions are striking against the freight railroads, any strike that does happen will affect almost all the passenger rail roads in the country as well because the majority run on freight tracks.

More like explain how passenger trains are at the mercy of freight railroads.Plannerdad wrote: ↑Tue Nov 22, 2022 6:41 amSomeone needs to explain the difference between a freight train and a passenger train to the local media.

Agree, but the local media could at least show a freight train, although NBC actually showed one and kind of understood the connection. Must be a closet rail fan!Chip wrote: ↑Tue Nov 22, 2022 9:56 amMore like explain how passenger trains are at the mercy of freight railroads.Plannerdad wrote: ↑Tue Nov 22, 2022 6:41 amSomeone needs to explain the difference between a freight train and a passenger train to the local media.

This may seem like a stupid question, but are there any Amtrak engineers in the BLET union?

Notably, the version passed includes the addition of 7 paid sick days annually, a provision not included in the PEB nor any further negotiations, a huge win for the Unions, if it sticks.~Z~ wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 3:16 pmHouse of Representatives voted for a bill to force the railworkers to keep working.
