The yard guys were running the old GT jet blower tonight thawing/clearing switches in the CN Battle Creek yard.It was pretty dark but I was going to try a little video with the new cam Momma got me for Christmas. Of course, the batteries died in the first 3 seconds of having it on! Pretty cool though, very strong Kerosene smell and very LOUD!
I know they don't use it often, but are similar units very common in big yards?

CN and CSX have snowjets in the Detroit area. I was able to get some shots of a CN snow jet working along the Mt. Clemens Subdivision back in February 2011.

NS had a snow jet in Grand Rapids back before Grand Elk took over, saw them use it a few times in Hugart yard. Never seen one on CSX here, but the MOW guys do run around clearing switches with giant leaf blowers.

You could not pay me to be within 300' of one of these things working.
Re: CN Snowblowing
Chessie used to have a snowjet at Wyoming yard. I've seen it work as far west as Hudsonville. And yes, you do not want to get real close.
