Solar eclipse in Ohio

Any one planning on going to Ohio for the eclipse? I'm going to make a day of it and start in Deshler and make my way over to Fostoria in the afternoon for the eclipse. Any thoughts/better ideas?

Absolutely. We will be traveling to somewhere as close to the center of the path of totality as we can get. Staked out several locations within one days drive. Will make a final determination day of based on the weather.

Anybody have some good locations for shooting trains that are in the path of this thing outside of some of the normal locations? I have been looking at Ohio and Indiana for a spot and I'd like to have as many opportunities as possible. Doubt I'll have this experience ever again.

Have not been out of Michigan in four years. A total solar eclipse isn't enough to get me there again. To all those going, I say go for it.

I'm thinking Fostoria or Toledo, but planning to be flexible depending on crowds and the weather.

Looks like the NS Chicago line would be good anywhere from Toledo east and the ex B&O would be good pretty much anywhere in Ohio.

Toledo is right on the edge of the path of totality just an FYI. Some models even show it missing them.

Weather forecast is looking better and better. If forecast looks good Monday morning, I'm shooting for Deshler as well with my kiddos and hang there for the afternoon.

I'm thinking of heading down I-75 to the Lima-Sidney area. Does anybody have info on how busy the B&O and Big Four lines are nowadays? Especially in the afternoon when the eclipse is happening.

I drove through and stopped in Lima for about an hour last May in the early afternoon.

I caught one train on the CFE. IIRC there two other movements in town but I was not able to get a good look at what was happening.

If I-75 is anything like I-57 in IL was in 2017, you'd make better time walking. I had to get off and take back roads, and eventually found myself in Carbondale.

I -69 was congested to capacity but mostly fluid coming and going. A few bog downs near Fort Wayne each way but other than that it was fine. Much better than trying to cross the Ohio on eclipse day in Evansville in 2017.

I-75 and I-65 were both pretty clogged in both directions. But not super bad.

Ended up going to Anna. The eclipse was awesome, I'm so glad I went! I also saw a southbound intermodal and two northbound lorams while I was there (one weed spraying, the other grinding). I also dipped south afterwards and got to see the Big Four bridge in Sidney which was really neat.
