Shortlines Train Location Heads Up - November 2023

GRE headed east with ~9 cars, looked like 1 for Amway, around 12:45. May have been their second trip.

Grand Elk was southbound through Byron Center at 10:28am. WAMX 4206, WAMX 4190, and 33 cars.

My wife and I are eating at Old Mill Brew Pub in Plainwell and the train just showed up and picked up 12 box cars from the Otsego paper plant spur. They hooked those up to the rest of the train and then uncoupled and went back down the paper plant spur towards Otsego. This picture was taken as they were picking up the 12 box cars off of the spur.

MQT NB at Ann St. around 1:15. 3 engines and 57 or so cars.

I decided to drive down to Otsego after we left Old Mill and caught the GDLK at the paper plant picking up four of the last five box cars on the property.

We did and we love Old Mill. They have fantastic burgers and always good service. This is the first time I have been there and caught the Grand Elk though.

More horns at 9:31pm, can not pinpoint area of direction

GRE went east thru Ada around 8:45a. It did not stop. Maybe 10-12 hoppers. Have not see a WB yet.

MQT Z151-22 @ 12:01 PM Soutbound W. Fulton Street with MQT #3391 + #3389 + #3406 & 60(?) Cars. Nice crew today with a shave and a haircut and a wave.

Looks like most of the hoppers were moved for another EB on Friday possibly.

Grand Elk south through Byron Center at 3:43pm. WAMX 4017, 4209, 4225 and 70 cars. Mostly boxcars in second half. Front half had what looks like a stop in Moline to switch soon.

I think I see a handful of tank cars, a covered hopper or two and maybe a gondola.

“The Marquette train just went by White Cloud with 3 engines, I couldn’t see the numbers”

Translation: Z151 north by White Cloud at 5pm on the dot with 3 units. Imma guess 3406, 3408 and 3391 for power in some order.
