Took a day trip to Waterloo Indiana last week to shoot some of the peak season trains and one question has been circling in my head. Having done a good chunk of BNSF and UP out west this year, their track speed on some of their trains was 70 mph. I was wondering how fast Norfolk Southern runs in Waterloo. Even the two unit oil trains I caught had to be doing a good 60 mph which I have not seen in ages. I know Amtrak does 79 on the Chicago line. But what about the unit and intermodal trains? How fast do unit and high priority intermodal trains on the Chicago line?
TIA

Re: Track Speed in Waterloo
Freight speed is 50 mph, intermodal is 60 mph, passenger is 79 mph.
"Remember, 4 mph is a couple, 5's a collision!"
