Up in da up
When UP acquired the cnw did they sell all the former cnw lines in yooperland right away or did they hang on to them for a while? Or did Cn buy that section while up took the rest?

UP operated the trackage for a time, just under 2 years, until they sold the "Duck Creek North" lines (Green Bay to Ishpeming) to Wisconsin Central at the end of 1996 / start of 1997. C&NW was merged into UP on 4/1/95.

UP & CNW married in 1995, and the CNW Upper Peninsula holdings were sold to the Wisconsin Central in 1997. Technically, the Sault Ste Marie Bridge Company made the purchase!
Also the DW&P and DM&IR are technically WC subsidiaries.

One has to wonder what the railroad scene in the UP would be like had the UP not sold off to the SSAM. The sale
Of the former CNW tracks led the WC to abandon Munising to Marquette (Diamond Jct) in favor of the less snowy ore sub.
