2-10-06

Here is another good one.

Called for Q22510 at 15:45, with CSXT 8135 & 8616. Seeing as how the yardmasters at Rouge, couldn't find time to spin the power, we had to spin it right off the bat, but before we can leave, we wait for the Y55010, to pull in with CSXT 61??, and 16 gons. Then we depart, at 17:00, to turn the locos. We stop in the Forman St wye, at 17:20, and at 17:25 a CP south bound, comes by, with CP 8645 & CEFX 1040, with 50 auto racks. We finish turning the locos, and depart the yard, at 18:05. Along the way, we see a new CP ES44AC, at the pig dock.

Now when I first got on the units, I noticed that the 8616, was shut down, and the 8135, was running, and there was only 80 lbs in the main reservoir (supposed to be between 130 to 145). And while turning the locos, any time we stopped for any length of time it holds at 130, or drops. So I report to mechanical and they say one has a bad air compressor, and they cant do anything. Also as we leave the yard, after the 8135 makes transition, I wont load over 200 amps.

We stop at Michigan Ave. Connection, at 18:12, and at 18:16, the X50910, with CP 8537 & 8549, and 54 loads, 27 empties, (long count) with 78 containers. We depart at 18:30. At 19:15, we see the Y20510, switching Atlas tube, at Eckels rd, with CSXT 26??, and D71610, pulling into the East yard, with CSXT 6119, and 7 cars.

As we head down the pass, we over take, the Q33410, at 19:20, who ends up overtaking us down at John Hicks. He has the CSXT 381, GCFX 3085, HLCX 6000, & BNSF 7763, with 61 cars. At Newbergh, we see the Q28710, with CSXT 8804 & 778, with 9 auto racks, at 19:48. Then at 19:56, at Wayne, we see the D71410, handing cars off to D73810. The D71410, had the CSXT 2698, and D73810, had the CSXT 6054, with 9 cars.

At Sibley Rd., we pass the X09210, with CSXT 7811 & 7303, and finally arrive at Sibley Rd., and New Boston, at 20:36. At 21:00, the Q28910, comes north with UP 4951, and 84 cars, and we crossover behind him, and start our pick up.

We are supposed to pick up 73 cars, for 5454 tons, and 6862 feet, but.... after tying on to the first track of 33 cars, we can only hold 80 lbs of air, on the train line. So I talk to mechanical again, and he says that there is nothing else to do. So I call AX and tell him what is going on, and they ask if having another unit, will help, and I said it should. So they order a taxi for Q289, and they bring us the UP 4951. Well as we head back out on the main, I stop on Sibley Rd., for the conductor, to get the switch, and pow, I hear something go clunk and vowlah we only have 70 lbs, and any time I do anything, it drops. So now I cant move the locos off the road, for fear of not being able to stop. So I walk back grab the UP unit, and pull the two junkers off the road.

By this time, I am talking to mechanical again for like the 8th time, and he says that we have a air leak, and thats it, nothing else. So I report back to the dispatcher, and it is decided with only 3 hours to go, that we need to head back north, to turn the power, and come back, but I tell him if there is a leak on the units, it would be better, to just leave the two units there, as no matter how many locos I have it will never build air right. So it is decided to leave them in Plymouth when we spin the UP unit.

So off we go, back towards Plymouth again. We depart at 23:00. At Eureka, we see the G19906 at 23:25. Back on the move again, at 00:13, and at Newbergh, we meet the Q32111, with HLCX 6076 & RLCX 8562, with 101 cars, at 00:36. We arrive at 01:00 to set off the two units, and turn our new leader. As we are in the yard, Q32610, leave's after making a setoff and pick up at 1:40A, and then we see Y30310, come around the Toledo wye, to back into the yard, at 1:48, Then finally, we hear Q32110, head around the curve towards Walbridge, at 02:00. We finally arive back at New Boston, with only 35 minuets to go, and just tie down the loco, and wait for a ride home.
