Trip #3

Unread post by sd70accsxt700 »

Well from what I have been told, they have 7 days to respond, and so far nothing so here we go.

1-14-06

Called for Q28714, at 15:15. On the way to work, I stopped by Vickers, and watched some trains.

First, is Q30414, with CSXT 8880 & 8589, with 65 cars, at 14:17.

Then is NS 862, wtih NS 6650 & HLCX 5479, with 119 cars. Note that first the NS unit looks like it is in NS paint, but has had a white patch applied. Second, on the raido, the train crew, reported that the HLCX unit, died, and the mechanic could not get it going, so they had to take it up to Wagon Works, on one unit.

Next at 14:36, we have a double whammy, first off heading north, is a yard job, with CSXT 2683, and 66 auto racks. At the same time, a Work train W0??, heads south with CSXT 6452 & 2209, and 7 difco side dump cars. Then before I leave to head to the office, we have the NS 25K.
He passes at 15:06, with NS 9595 & 9371, with 64 loads, and 8 empties (long count) with 104 containers, and 6 trailers.

Well I get to work, and see we have the UP 5042 & UP 9314, with 15 loads, and 77 empties, for 5228 tons, and 8651 feet. We get on board, at 15:45, and see Q20014, putting away his train, in the east bound west end, with CSXT 7559, 7719, &8786.

Also sitting down in the eastbound west end, was the now off duty Q21012, who had the CSXT 5246 & 8129.

Also while sitting around the yard waiting, I found some basket ball players on the side of a GTW box.
Image
While sitting waiting on doubling up the train, Q15114, comes into town, and stops at Crandel Rd., along side the old hump tower, with CSXT 5952 5159, with 19 loads (short count).
Image

Well finally we get to double our train up, and while waiting for the conductor to get a ride up to the head end, I catch a few of our train (P.S. it will not look this way for long).

Finally we pull up to Union St, and take a position to depart and I snap a few more photos of the W tracks (used, for BOE's storing locos, and other stuff). Sitting on the W tracks, are the CSXT 8781, 1550, 2209, 6425, 2654, & 2794.

We depart, at 19:19, and head north, and at Vickers we pass the Q39914, with Y65114, onboard, with CSXT 8712, 9161, & 9157, with 130 cars. Then at 19:40, we pass the Z24714, with CN 2569, ?544, & 2727, with 120 cars.

This is where the excitement starts. As we are heading north, we hear the K599, coming south, so I figure that we are going to need to stop, at Ottawa river. So as we go past the intermediate signal at Boullvard yard, I put the locos into dynamic braking (at this point, the SD70M, seems to be handling it well, so it is the only power I am using). Ottawa river signal lies, about a mile away.

As we are coming to a stop, at 18:02, the head end of K59914, with CEFX 3117 & HLCX 815?, with 92 cars passes by. And off in the distance, I can see the Y20114, at the AA yard putting away a train, with CSXT 2683. Then..........

Beeep Beeep Beeep , I look up and the HTD, says that we have no air on the bottom. crap I know what is about to happen (well not all that was about to happen, but at least what is next). The rear end has gone into emergency, so I put the train line handel into emergency, and instantly grab the raido, and warn the K train that we are in the hole, and I dont konw what is happening. No sooner do I say that and Whhhhhhack/Whaaaam, and we come to a stop. Well the conductor on the K train looks over our train, and finds a air hose, 80 cars deep (probably caused by the run in of slack, from being in dynamic braking). So he puts the air back together, and asks if we have a reading on the bottom, and I reply no. So with all they can do done, I tell the conductor he better start walking. You should also know that my conductor, is his first time on the road by himself, I gots a FNG.

Well he makes it out the back door, and reppears just seconds later. He says "Well I did not have to walk very far, the locos are separated". Fu(&)&. that not good. Here is what happened.

So after discussing it, we decide that if we get rid of the 9314, we can continue north. So we take the 5042, and set it on the main, north of the SAS at Hallett tower, and Alexis. Then we walk back, get the 9314, and set it off on a spur, across from Hallett tower, for a realy to come and take back to Walbridge. Then we put the 5042, back on the train, and depart north at 20:40. All told 2:40 delay.

We pull up to Alexis, and stop at 20:48, and at 20:55, we see a southbound NS, with a BNSF 9-44CW, and a NS unit. We depart, at 21:02, and at 21:12, we pass the E44514, at Sterns Rd., with CSXT 5104 & 493, with 93 cars.

At Lakeside Rd, we pass the Q30514, with GCFX 3092 & 6072, with 31 cars. Up next at Stumpmire Rd., we pass the G96014, with CSXT 8595 & HLCX 6399, with 66 cars. At South Carleton, we see the Q24514, with CSXT 5007 & 8762, with 80 autoracks, at 21:54, At Sibley Rd., we see the Q22414, with CSXT 8319, and 24 cars. We arrive at New Boston, at 22:26.

As we are working, we are passed by the G94213, with CSXT 7510 & 7892, with 70 cars. We set out 5 loads, 77 empties, for 4450 tons, and 7710 feet. We depart, at 00:30, with 10 empties, for 778 tons, and 941 feet. At Stark Rd., we pass the K35714, with CSXT 8533 & FURX 7258, with 59 cars, at 1:18. Then at P Company, we pass the Q23114, with CSXT 8483, 7564, & 8342, with 90 cars. And we arrive at Rouge.

1-15-06

Well lets hope for a quilter night tonight.

Called about 22:00, for X15016, out of Livernois.
We have the CSXT 5951 & 5952, with 39 loads (short count), with 6442 tons, and 8412 feet. We get on board, at 23:00, and have to dig out our units, as they are 4 and 5th in line. After doing that we head across the yard, and put the train together and get a air test.

As we are doing that, we see the 260, with NS 8997, and 80 Roadrailers, at 00:12. Then at CP Waterman, at 00:30, we see the 28Z, head north with NS 5810 & 4105, with Aprox 100 autoracks. Also at 00:30, the 20N pulls up to enter the yard, with NS 8779, and 74 platforms (short count), with 163 containers. We depart the yard, at 1:10, and pull down to Delray to wait our turn. We depart Delray, at 1:38, and at Oakwood yard, pass ??? with UP 7116, with 45+ cars.

Then we rocket all the way down to Sterns Rd., with out seeing anything, , but get tagged by the HBD at 122.4, so we pull down to Sterns rd and the conductors has a walk, at 3:10.

Then at 3:13, we are passed by the K385??, with CSXT 8108 & HLCX 6334, and 98 cars. At 3:42, we are passed by the Q27215, with CSXT 8043 & HLCX 7174, with 88 autoracks. Next is the K38413, with GCFX 6073 & UP 2967, with 122 cars. We depart at 4:45. At Lower River Bridge, we pass the K59814, with HLCX 6508 & CSXT 7508, at 5:10. We arrive at Walbridge, at 6:10, to had off the train to the next crew.

Sounds bad, not just goofy. I, for one, will be looking forward to your post though.
