New siding-business in Traverse City???

Out and about yesterday in Traverse City, came across this new construction, sure looks like a rail siding going in...??
Along Cass Street south of Beacon Recycling.

Might be owned by Britten Metal Fabrication. I see they had a small building on the property, but not positive if the new larger building that was setup is also the same company or not. Property is owned by "2294 CASS LLC"

A quick google of "2294 CASS LLC" shows the agent of the shell company to be a Paul Britten.

I hope it is a new siding. Even a couple cars a month would be a nice addition to the TC rail landscape.

It sure looks like one, and Britten is a large company that sprawls 1/4 to 1/2 mile down to Beacon. The new building just completed (as in built, not finished inside yet). They have stacks of new shipping containers on the property (you can see some of them in the background in KC's photos). Not sure if they build those or receive them. So maybe inbound steel or outbound containers? I'll check back every couple days on signs of ties/rail.

Kind of off-topic, but the 2019 streetview of this area shows some trailer homes. So I got curious and looked up what this whole site was zoned (Garfield Twp) and it's light-industrial and doesn't allow any kind of residences from what I could find in the code. Did these predate the zoning code and grandfathered in? All of this is gone; property records show the entire south end of this parcel was cleaned up last year or so. I was just curious if these were really homes people lived in or like grounds keeper quarters or something.

They were trailers people lived in for years. They were grandfathered in.

In bound empty containers (double stack) and down the road plywood and building materials for Box & tops. you can see how stupid MDOT engineers are, GLC ask for a run-a-round so they dont have to ball face cars back to Boardman Yard and you can plainly see its going to be a stub track. Now they have to split the power so they dont have to make a shove move back to the yard!!!

Seems common sense to put a runaround siding there, which would help for Beacon also.

But darn, we're gonna see double stack container trains (I assume only a few cars here and there) up to TC???? Now that's going to be a sight behind those GLC GP-35's! And cool, building materials down the road- glad to see this new business in TC on a dormant portion of the Grawn line no less!

Could be a new company going in south of Cheery Growers that makes big pre-stress concrete beams, the bike lady is trying to get MDOT to abandon the line to Grawn but MDOT said no because there might be a couple new businesses moving on the line in the future.

This would be awesome as well. Sounds like GLC is putting good effort on the TC area now. Any time line for either of these to come online (the container place seems like a done deal, so maybe before too long)? Grawn potential shipper I assume still in the "maybe" stage. :)

the containers I see in the promo (the actual) photos are 20 foot forklift able.
those aren't double stackable.
edit: they can't be fork lifted out of the bottom of a well car.

I don’t know much about the trackage in Traverse City, so forgive my ignorance, but isn’t there one in TC as well?

The runaround is several (6 at least) miles south.
