Cincinnati Southern Railroad

The election was held yesterday, which included issue 22.
Cincinnati voted in favor of selling the municipal-owned Cincinnati Southern Railway to Norfolk Southern. It passed with 52% of the vote.
The sale of the 337-mile railroad from Cincinnati to Chattanooga will not close until March of 2024, at the earliest.
A five-member board, which includes two former mayors, will oversee the $1.6 billion trust fund.

Wow. I am actually shocked this passed. I think at this point the rental fees from the lease to NS simply didn't make up for the amount they can gain through the sale. Le's just hope the trust fund is well managed for what it is intended to be used for, and the money doesn't get lost in red tape and pet projects.

Luken and Mallory are the former mayors on the board. The five-member board has existed for years.
State law requires it to be spent on infrastructure.
The first spending would come in the city’s 2025 fiscal year capital budget.
