121 will run much later today. 176 was late ordered AGAIN today for no apparent good reason. Once 176 comes up, 121 will immediately take that power. That was at least the 5th road train late out of Oakwood yesterday and the second time this week that 176 was late ordered. Sounds like NS should hand that yard to Conrail lol.

A few year back, 171 became Conrail FD41 from Sterling to Delray where the 171 crew would take over. Word is 171 was taking excessive time to get down to Oakwood due to the NS crews being less competent than the local Conrail crews who were more familiar with the territory.

FD20 with NS 5287 just made a Southbound run from Sterling. Should be back in an hour or so with some cars. Meanwhile, 121 will have NS 9753 and 1023 with both engines facing north, should also depart in about an hour.

It wasn't that long ago there was a lot of box car traffic out of Sterling Yard. A handful of component plants shipped outbound products and Sterling Assembly received inbound. Do any of those plants still ship using box cars?

FD34 works Sterling Stamping and probably Detroit News. FD20 would probably work Ford Axle and anyone else that needs them further North up the line. Inbound boxcars usually come on 176 or FD20 when it runs down to North Yard and then comes back to Sterling. And then they come out on 121 or NY-7 when it goes to Sterling and departs.

A lot of the times (if you have a scanner), if you hear a yard unit called at Sterling lined for BOTH directions, that’s FD20. When they go South to North Yard, they’ll go down as light power and then an hour later, they’ll come back North with the needed cars.

Ns 9288 will likely be leading the 121 in about an hour or two. Paired up with the 4007 that came up on 176. Both engines will be facing North, going south at least until they get to CP Scotten.
