Refresh my memory, but didn't amtrak have a derailment awhile ago where an NEC train hit like a backhoe or something like that?

The number of contractors, utilities and adjacent landowners that'll try doing stuff that can threaten trains is mind-boggling. Why call the railroad to setup flagging when you're an idiot, or you simply don't care?

One of the greatest existential risks to day-to-day railroad operations.

Yes, the two collisions are very similar. Multi track area. Maintenance being performed on track adjacent to active track. Equipment ended up on the still active track.
