Apparently, CSX is rushing the flared radiator MAC’s out of rebuild, two of them left Huntington with some parts of the locomotives in primer paint, with the rest of the engine still the original YN3 and YN3b.

940 has been repainted finally, now wareing YN3c. Formally reitculd for its amanature hour rattle can paint job. Dubbed the Crayola unit.
Seen on M422 this morning in Lansdowne, MD

Four more Flared Radiator SD70MAC rebuilds have been released from Huntington. Those are 4704, 4748, 4753 and 4766. 4748 has been repainted into the YN3C paint scheme. 4704, 4753 and 4766 were not repainted. 4704 and 4753 are still in YN3, and 4766 is still in YN3B. All 3 of the units that were not repainted have been moved to Waycross, and the speculation is that they will be getting heritage paint schemes. As of now, not much is known on what will actually happen to them, but getting heritage paint seems like the most likely outcome at the moment.

Two more flared SD70MAC rebuilds have released. 4714 got a repaint into YN3C and went on C547-28. 4730 was released without a repaint, still in YN3, and is headed to Waycross on M693 presumably for repaint into a new heritage scheme or YN3C.

SD70AC 4766 has been repainted into YN3C at Waycross. It now appears these will just be receiving YN3C there and not heritage paint. The other three rebuilds there will likely receive YN3C as well.

It’s probably bc of the fact that all the current HUs are Gevos and they’re the most modern locomotives on the roster “alongside” the rebuilds. But then again since everyone knows pretty much all of the HUs we have so far are Gevos, CSX could surprise us and slap a fade and flashy rear paint job on a MACe when we least expect it. That’s my guess. Apologies if I went off topic while trying to answer your question.

The ES44AH’s are sort of like the flagship of the CSX fleet. It’s darn near impossible not to see at least one on any CSX train. Maybe that’s why?

Rebuild and YN3c repaints 4741 & 4745 were seen on the Folkston cam. 4741 on Oct 14th and 4745 on Oct. 16th.

Apparently, CSX is having at least ten of the former GP40-2 mother slug set units rebuilt to GP40-3 status but retaining their original cabs. Saw a photo of 6563 at Metro East in fresh YN3c paint, which would be the former 6417. Other core units for theses rebuild are 6423,6463,6477,6484,6485,6488, 6912,6922 and 6930. All ten have been in long term storage at various locations for a number of years. Some cores had been split apart from their slugs for years, others are "new" split aparts as they were last seen in storage lines still attached.

The pictures floating around Facebook were actually low-res scans from the ebay listing (now ended) for slides of the first two units. I'll try linking the images from ebay.
