Kankakee, Beaverville, and Southern Railroad History
This railroad was founded in 1977 when Fey Orr bought up 25 miles of trackage from Conrail that was set to be abandoned.
In 1981, 80 more miles of ex-New York Central and Milwaukee Road trackage was bought.
In 1991, the KBSR bought more track set to be abandoned. Totaling up to its current length of 155 miles of track. The railroad originally ran old ALCO locomotives, but now rosters EMD GP38-2Ms. See the full current roster below. The railroad has a shop just north of Donovan, Illinois.
Junctions/Interchanges
Ambia, IN (Handy Junct.)
This is where the KB&S interchanges with the Bee Line Railroad.
Kankakee, IL
Here, the KB&S terminates into the Canadian National Chicago Subdivision, which allows access to Norfolk Southern as well.
St. Anne, IL
At St. Anne, the KB&S has a interchange with and diamond over the Union Pacific Villa Grove Subdivision.
Danville, IL
Danville provides the KB&S with direct access to the Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation.
Lafayette, IN
At the south-eastern edge of KB&S, this provides access to both NS and CSX like Danville.
Sheldon, IL
Sheldon is home to a diamond and interchange with the Toledo, Peoria & Western railroad.
Webster, IN
Another interchange with the TP&W is found in Webster, Indiana.
