Hamilton Northwestern Railroad Co.
Re: Hamilton Northwestern Railroad Co.
On 08/24/24 I noticed these covered hoppers at the Hamilton Northwestern transload facility in Fillmore Michigan. Apparently the HNW has a new customer.
The cars on the siding have pneumatic tubing for unloading fertilizer or plastic pellets.
A couple of years ago I heard a rumor from somebody who supposedly talked to someone that worked for the Hamilton Northwestern that they would be transloading fertilizer at the yard.

My guess is either flour, starch, or sugar.
Re: Hamilton Northwestern Railroad Co.
If you look closely at the picture there's a few spots on the ground that are white which could be one of the three things that you mentioned.

Nope, Nope, Nope.
Re: Hamilton Northwestern Railroad Co.
The world may never know what are in those hoppers. It remains as Fillmore’s biggest kept secret.

Road salt???
Re: Hamilton Northwestern Railroad Co.
I don't really care what's in those cars however if I had to take one final guess I would say agricultural lime or gypsum. What really matters is that there are cars in the HNW transload yard in Fillmore Michigan.
Re: Hamilton Northwestern Railroad Co.
Was there a rolled up $20 next to the pile of white powder?
Re: Hamilton Northwestern Railroad Co.
Rolled up $100. You know we don’t skimp out here in Fillmore.

The owners and employees of the railroads are under no obligation to provide you the information you seek.joeyuboats wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:03 pmI thought we could get RR answers here, on the way they operate, locos, stuff like that. I guess not.
This is a small, closely-held operation. Maybe they don’t want to share. Maybe they would if you were less demanding?

Not only are they under no obligation, there may be an agreement to not disclose information.Saturnalia wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 12:36 amThe owners and employees of the railroads are under no obligation to provide you the information you seek.joeyuboats wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:03 pmI thought we could get RR answers here, on the way they operate, locos, stuff like that. Also, by telling us, marketing folks at other nearby railroads could be watching these threads and use that information to their advantage to try to steal the business. Just a thought.Jim_c wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 7:40 amNot only are they under no obligation, there may be an agreement to not disclose information.Saturnalia wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 12:36 amThe owners and employees of the railroads are under no obligation to provide you the information you seek.joeyuboats wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:03 pmI thought we could get RR answers here, on the way they operate, locos, stuff like that.
