I just heard something real strange with the DD at 44.2, whatever happened it said 10 axles. Can anybody elaborate on what that was?
Probably a maintainer testing the DD.
It was DED test at mp CG44.2 with alarms for axles 21 to 23 & 32 & 33. Total axles was 100. Typically, 100 axles are set as a "test train" allowing the maintainer to get from the house to track side once he hits "Enter" & then he kicks the DED paddles & listens for the DD's radio transmission to confirm the test. You can set different axle quantities for a test train with your laptop. My DD sites were in 3 track & 4 track territory & we would typically use 200 axles for our test train. At times, you will also hear the Maintainer doing what we had called "a flame test" to alarm the HBD scanner on each of the rails by waving a heat source (I used a cigar).
Thanks for the information guys!

Neat information about the DD tests, thanks for sharing!

Approach Signal at EAS Howell as of 14:20. Probably for D708, we'll have to see if that new unit is indeed 578.

D708 thru Howell at 14:38. 8400, 4037, and 578 leading 21 cars. Clear Ann Pere at 14:40.

Loaded grain train from Grand Ledge approaching Williamston at 16:54. D708 expected to clear up in the transfer at Ann Pere for it. GLC also approaching Ann Pere with 19 cars for CSX. Time for Amessmann to make a run to Lucy Road.

Good plans still fail and the one at Ann Pere fell apart. With GLC still having a clear signal for them at Ann Pere it would still stop the loaded grain train which was a NO NO. 708 left their GLC cars in the transfer and went power light west back to Lansing. Grain train now stopped at Fowlerville waiting for 708 to get there. GLC hopefully will have their work done and gone south before the grain train gets here. It will be at least 18:00 before it gets to Howell. 708 entering the Fowlerville siding at 18:43.

Evidently, CSX 578 was left at Peaker for work because it did not come back west with 708.

I was about to ask as I had never seen Peaker receive a locomotive or anything else. They must've left it on the east end of the train when running around at South Lyon, then backed the whole train up to drop it off, as Peaker's switch is left hand and 578 was between the other loco's and cars. Anyone know why it was dropped off?

At some point last summer D708 had a CN locomotive, was this also worked on at Peaker?
