Michigan Airline Jackson-Niles

Unread post by PatAzo »

A recent photo of the EJ&E heritage unit at Cassopolis lead to some discussion on the Michigan Airline. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=37568&sid=e99a207b6 ... bf805072a7

I'd often heard the Michigan Central did directional running until the MC main was double tracked. Give this was 100+ years ago I had wondered if there was a reliable reference to this occurring.

Well I wonder no more. The 1875 Michigan Central report to share holders referring to revenue for the year says "By the mainline, in the above statements, it is intended to include the Airline also, which is simply a double track, and used as such."

In 1875 the MC grossed $7.1M and netted $2M which would be a $47M profit in todays dollars.
