#975:

Date is in Description.

#974 was scrapped the day before 975.

Edit: That means #975 on 7-26-11, and #974 on the 25th.

#10 will be undergoing a restoration and return to service in the Future. Plans call to have her STAY in D&M Paint and re-applied lettering. And Jon, began life as M&STL D-742, traded to GE, then got picked up my D&M. ;)

I want to say it went to CMGN and was used for parts...might have been renumbered but I can't find anything to confirm that one way or the other

I believe you are correct, GP9R, and it went to CMGN. I do not recall it being renumbered. I think it served on CMGN for at least a short while. 4505 was acquired as a parts source and did not turn a wheel in revenue service IIRC.

I'm not sure if 977 ever made it to the LSRC. At some point it was sold to Morris Stone down in White Pigeon. In the early 00's I think it was sold to Michigan Southern/Pioneer, where it was repaired and operated occasionally around 2007/08. It was cut up along with 466 and other Alcos in late 2011 :(

Didn't 1280 get donated to the Saginaw Rail Road Museum?

Sorry for the delay in responding to this, Jon. Finally got around to looking into some of the not-so-obvious engines. Here's what I could find:

I have someone that says that 44 Tonner 10 lasted "into the Lake State era, but not on the Lake State." The unit was supposedly kept in the Tawas roundhouse (owned by Mr. Pinkerton, I think), and may have been sold and removed from the property when they cleared out the roundhouse for demolition (also when they got rid of those passenger cars that are now in Standish). I have no solid proof to back this up, but it seems logical.

D&M RS2s 468, 4610, and 466 were sidelined in Tawas in 1981 after the arrival of the centuries. I think the 466 was sold later in 1981. The 4610 was briefly reinstated in the 80s to be used in Cheboygan. I'm also fairly certain that either the 468 or the 4610 ran sometime before its demise in Alpena to LaFarge and back (possibly on short-term lease to LaFarge?). The 468 and 4610 lasted from 1981 until 2005 in storage and as part sources for the 469. In July of 2005, the 468, 4610, and 976 were cut up in Alpena.

You also asked about the 467. It seems that the D&M purged this unit from the roster in the late 1960s. I'm not sure why or where it went, though. Nobody I talk to seems to know, either.

The 481 was gone sometime before 80/81.

The 1077 was sold either in late 91 or early 92. The 977 did indeed make it to the Lake State era, and I think it was sold in 1999.

I think that the 1195 was scrapped in 07.

Also, the 974 was not cut up in Alpena. Only the 975 was. Although I didn't see this myself, I would guess that the 974 was scrapped in Saginaw.

The 4502 was a tricky one. The MoPac U23Bs showed up in 1989 (hence why the CM's started with 89xx). The first photo of DM 4502 that I've seen was in 1990 in Alpena, with D&M marking. The next photo I found of it was in 1994 at Wenona, wearing Central Michigan markings. My guess is that the unit went from the D&M to the CM in 1992 around the time that the Lake State was born.

I was told the 974 was scrapped the day before 975 in Alpena by my source who is also from Alpena. I can not confirm that totally, but there did seem to be non-975 parts lying around while 975 was being cut up.

Hmmm...well...I guess it could have happened in Alpena. I was in town for the 975 getting cut up, and I don't remember anything happening before that. Btw the 975 was cut up on the 25th, too. It took more than one day. I don't remember you being there when they made the first cuts on the 25th, so I'm guessing that the parts that you saw on the ground were from the 975 from the previous day. Again, I could be wrong and totally missed it, but I'm fairly certain that the 974 was cut up somewhere else on the system.

Here a shot of the 975 being spotted for scrapping on the 25th.

Jim, thanks very much for the help. I think I'll copy this info to the Wiki to better archive it for future reference :)

Went to SRI, and is now property of SMRS.

This is a picture of 467 taken in Bay City, 6/28/79. I suspect 467 might have been sold around the same time 466, 1982.

Here is a picture of 4610 in Bay City dated 6/28/90. I suspect it may have been retired around 92 and kept around for parts until scrapped in 05.

 From a VERY old Trains Magazine, RS 2 467 went to Mississippi Power & Light, IIRC, at Port Gibson MS. Cannot remember what year it left Michigan.Still wondering why it was singled out to leave the roster. LSRC is a neat RR,but the old D&M to me, was something very special.
