Following the old line east out of Charlotte via google satellite imagery, I noticed what appears to be an abandoned railcar in the woods at the end of the tracks near Flanders Rd. Can anyone confirm that is what I'm seeing, and if so, is there a story/history behind it being there?

Abandoned railcar near Charlotte?
Re: Abandoned railcar near Charlotte?
At one time that line was used for car storage here’s another satellite pic from Google.
Note: if you look closely it looks as though a tree is fallen and landed on top of the rail cars themselves.- ~Z~

Here's a 2010 post from Larry G about the cars at the end of the line near Flanders road: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14479&p=128043&hili ... rs#p128043
"also two coaches out at the east end." - so appears the two cars are coach cars.

Thanks. I'd forgotten all about that thread. It's pretty long and I'm sure I posted in it at least once or twice.~Z~ wrote: ↑Tue Dec 20, 2022 10:40 pmHere's a 2010 post from Larry G about the cars at the end of the line near Flanders road: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14479&p=128043&hili ... rs#p128043

I'd love to go investigate those cars and get some photos.

Or you could have looked at the Charlotte Southern Railroadfan Wiki page and found your answerJ T wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 6:59 amThanks. I'd forgotten all about that thread. https://railroadfan.com/wiki/index.php/ ... n_Railroad The orange baggage car is thought to be a former GTW MOW car and the other car is ex-Long Island 2957.
FYI, the cornfield was marked with private property signs, so I took the photo from the road with my telephoto lens.
Eddie Gross photographed the cars in 2002, when there were three (no clue what happened to the other LIRR car):

Thanks, I wasn't aware that page even existed.

We have every shortline and regional covered in Michigan.

Also, someone on YouTube made the horrible trek thru the woods to go look in the cars (not great quality):
