Interesting is the bridge is intact but the jumble of debris in the foreground. So flood, fire or civil unrest. I'm going with Grand Rapids and the flood of 1883. What I can't say is exactly where.

I found an article on that flood that contained the same photo but I don't know the area well enough.

You guys are correct, Grand Rapids in 1883. Now, the article says it was one of three railroad bridges that were damaged. High water levels during a flood and caused log jams at the various bridges in town. I don't which of the 3 that this is though, but we can continue onto the next "where be it."

From 1970. All the building are still there but that ROW is a rail trail now.

DaveO is spot on. That's Byron Center on 84th St on the west side of downtown. Most cool photo Michael. Building in the photo is now the Alebird Taphouse and Brewery.

That ROW was part of the old New York Central RR, ex LS&MS, that ran between Elkhart, IN and Grand Rapids. Passenger train service on that trackage was discontinued many years ago.

Correct DaveO. Appears the chicken was removed between 2011 and 2018 per google street view.
Where be it? While it can be seen on googlemaps, it was taken by me.

Good hunting Dave. According to one source I found, a drunk driver crashed into the chicken then sued because it was too close to the road.
Z, I knew you would get a kick out that photo of Byron Center since you mentioned you lived nearby.

If I were in downtown Muskegon and someone asked if the photo location was nearby, I'd say it's close enough, within 30 mins at least.

Since when does it take 30 minutes to drive from Muskegon to Ferrysburg?

Ferrysburg, Second St. looking north.

Standard is correct. It generally doesn't take 30 mins to drive to Ferrysburg... That's why I said within 30 mins. Didn't want to give the location down to the exact mileage away or exact time like that :)
