I want to know where the 0 mile post was because that certainly isn't a 1/2 mile by from any logical place on Stony Island or the mainland.

So it's this little building out on Gross Ile, the Gross Ile Historical Museum? https://www.google.com/maps/place/Gross ... 83.1416392

From the depot to the middle of Stoney Island is 1/2 mile per Google Maps at least.

The brick station, now museum, is on the higher ground and had a track up top next to it.
The line crossed Stony Island and extended out on a pier to the ferry dock.
I couldn't find a Chicago and Canada Southern employee timetable online.
That should tell where the milepost 0 was.
The current river geography is different than it was back then due to channel dredging and spoil dumping.

I grew up on Grosse Ile. When the water in the river is low enough you can still see remnants of the bridge pier on Stoney Island.

It was actually Michigan Central that crossed GI, not Chicago and Canada Southern.

The stone depot AFAIK was built by the Michigan Central.
Railroad history can be very confusing.

Definitely, the company in the picture is an easy clue also. At least it told me the location instantly..
