Indeed correct! it was the former NYC RR main line, now NS between Chicago and New York City with Milbury, OH about 10 miles east of Toledo. Amtrak currently operates two trains in each directions The Lake Shore Limited between NYC and Chicago. and the Capitol Limited between Chicago and DC.

Carleton it is! Guess it was pretty easy. Photo taken from the tower stairway landing in 1974 looking south down the DT&I as train Apollo 10 (AP-10) approaches. This train ran Toledo-Diann-Flat Rock and always had PC power. Its counterpart, AP-9, ran out of Flat Rock in the wee hours of the morning.

Not off of a railtrail. It's a spur that at least used to get service - unknown exactly last, but within the past few years.

Not Oakland County

If you were in Oakland county, and drove from there to Lowell, and I tell you you were heading the right direction, would you then turn and go south to the MI/IN border at White Pigeon?
No... you'd go west from Lowell :)

Ooh! Ooh! I know where it is! :D

And to think that line used to have steam passenger trains on it at one time...wow.
