Hey CAP'T, did I see you inside the station Mon night when I was waving at you from the rear of the train?? If so, at least you were smart enough to stay inside and stay warm and still see the train, unlike those younger guys who stood out in the cold

Once again I'm in the minority :)

I like it. I enjoy the different points of view and discussions.

I don't go for name calling and personal attacks.

Keep in mind, Zack, that another reason the P/R/E board was created was to keep those topics out of the railroad topics. IMO you'll see more P/R/E stuff in the railroad boards if you remove it.

For those of you that don't like it, don't participate...what's so hard about that? Seriously, if you don't participate and enough people agree with you then the P/R/E board dies on its own. Zack doesn't have to do anything.

Zack - if you think it should be changed then as the moderator you should do what you think is best for your board. But I would be disappointed...

Thanks for the opportunity to voice my opinion.

DON, THINK ABOUT MY SUGGESTION---PAY TO PLAY AND ONLY VISIBLE TO THOSE THAT DO.

IF ZACK DID THAT , I WOULD STILL DONATE [HELP PULL THE WEIGHT-DON'T BE THE WEIGHT :D :D :D ], BUT I WOULD HAVE ZACK BLOCK THE ENTIRE AREA FROM MY ACCESS.

THERE ARE ENOUGH OTHER HATE SITES [HUFFINGTON /DAILY KOS/ ETC] WHERE EXTREME HATRED AND WEIRD OPINIONS CAN BE EXPRESSED.
THIS WAS A FUN RAILFAN SITE.   IT CAN BE AGAIN. :D :D :D

THE ABOVE IS AN OPINION. 8) 8) 8)

I voted yes but honestly get rid of it. There is WAY too many problems with it even being started. No names are being named but people have changed their views of each other from railfan buddies to Conservatives or Liberals or whatever. THIS IS A RAILFAN BOARD! NOT A POLITICAL CHAT ROOM! Let's try to keep it that way. PLEASE!
That's my 2 cents..... You wanna be angry at me go ahead. But I think we need to focus on trains instead of politics.
This is my life. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

If this is a problem get used to it.

I voted "other" but I think total elimination to be the best idea. I enjoyed the early discussions on the PRE section but it soon got nasty.

Some one please explain to me if the P/L/E board upsets you, why not just avoid it? Why does it have to be eliminated for you to be happy? Why is not reading it not an option for you?

I agree with Lee. I started to interact with some of the threads, but it is a time-consuming process that I just don't have time for, and I've quit. Occasionally I'll read some of the posts, but this is a RR forum and that is where I focus my attention -- much more enjoyable and less frustrating! :D . If the P/R/E area continues, fine, but I won't object if it goes away.

On the other hand, Don has a good point, perhaps P/R/E could be seen as a "safety valve", and if it is eliminated, all the rage and frustration that I see there may find it's way into other non-P/R/E threads, and more policing will be needed. Won't hurt to keep it, and people can avoid it if they wish.

And thanks, Zack, for maintaining this site -- you're a great moderator!

Don:

I don't read most of the PRE threads, certainly not in entirety. But there is some RR related info there I like to read so I check the area several times a day for the stuff that interests me. I look forward to every poster's RR related info. Even the "radicals :D " share some good RR related info.

It's kinda like work. At break the unwritten rule is no politics or religion discussion. For some reason everyone respects the other person's opinions on sports , kids, etc. but when politics or religion enter the discussion, it negatively affects folks opinions of and respect for their fellow workers if they don't share the same political or religious views. You get gun shy about sharing info for fear it will set off a very opinionated response. We have one fellow at work that tends to bring politics into the discussions. Clams the rest of the group right up when he does that.

That's happening here as well. Plus several are not willing to just give their opinion. They make disparaging remarks about other posters and carry on, and on, and on. My personal opinion is that if some of you want to argue about
non RR stuff like abortion, Bush, Obama, the economy etc, do it someplace else.

PS: Factiod for you, a reliable source has told me Amway has received as many cars in the last 18 months as they did in the past 5 years :D

Here's an idea. Keep the P/R/E board, and post a tutorial at the top, carefully explaining how to avoid reading posts one is not interested in reading. Then post the E-mail address of a priest the complainers can send their complaints too.

For all of you opposed to political discussion, what would be your reaction, if the government or the internet forbid political discussion? The same whiners and complainers would be screaming bloody murder about "freedom of speech". For that group, freedom of speech is fine, so long as they agree with the speech.

THERE IS NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH ON WEBSITES.
THE OWNER OF THE SITE DETERMINES WHAT WILL BE ALLOWED AND WHO WILL BE ALLOWED TO POST ON THE SITE.
OTHER THAN THE OWNER, ALL POSTERS ARE GUESTS AND SUBJECT TO THE OWNERS RULES [UNLESS THE FEDS SAY YOU DID SOMETHING WRONG-IN THEIR VIEW].
IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT---START YOUR OWN SITE. :D 8) 8) 8)

NOW TO HOBORICH'S LAST POST. SOMEONE HERE APPEARS TO BE FUNCTIONALLY ILLITERATE [YOU CAN READ THE WORDS BUT YOU DO NOT COMPREHEND WHAT IS BEING SAID].
WE ARE NOT DISCUSSING THE MESSAGE OR FREEDOM OF SPEECH. WE ARE DISCUSSING IF THE MESSAGE [THE P/R/E/BOARD] SHOULD BE POSTED HERE. AND IF SO, WHERE AND HOW.
MOST HERE HAVE SAID THE P/R/E SHOULD BE ELIMINATED [YES!!!!!! :D :D :D ].
I ALSO PROPOSED A PAY TO PLAY OPTION [MY SECOND CHOICE].
THIS OPTION WILL KEEP THE TRASH [TRASH TALK AND HATE SPEECH] IN THE TRASH BIN [A PREPAID AND LOCKED BIN].
PLEASE DON'T LITTER. 8) 8) 8)

NOW THE DECISION IS UP TO ZACK .

THIS WAS A GREAT SITE TO POST RAILFAN INFO AND HAVE FUN. IT HAS CHANGED.
HOPEFULLY IT WILL REVERT BACK TO A FRIENDLY PLACE FOR RAILROAD FANS TO MEET AND SHARE IDEAS. :D  :D  :D

It's my observation that the majority of members young & old that have been on the board over 6 months are in favor of elimination of the PRE. The most vocal for keeping it have been posting 6 months or less.

DR hit the nail on the head. I don't believe it has a place here, but that's up to Zack. It seems like when you add politics or religion to something like this, it creates a lot of friction between members. I wonder about what effect this will have on the annual meets.

PAT C.'s idea may also work (pay to view), but then you have to ask yourself this.... if you're paying to view that forum, are you really here because you're a railfan or are you here just because you're addicted to the P/R/E stuff.

THE PAY TO PLAY WOULD ONLY APPLY TO THE P/R/E AREA. THE REST OF THE BOARD WOULD CONTINUE TO BE FREE AS IT NOW IS.ONLY THOSE THAT PAY COULD ACCESS AND SEE THE P/R/E POSTS.

DONATIONS WOULD ALWAYS BE WELCOME AND APPRECIATED AS THEY ARE NOW.
