P/R/E restructure

Unread post by ~Z~ »

The P/R/E area was mainly created to deal with the volume of posts concerning the 2008 election, as I wanted people to have an avenue to discuss all of the political issues that involved railroads. What it seems to have turned into is a huge pile of non-railroad political topics flooding the area. I've gotten lots of messages from various people about not enjoying all of those types of posts in the P/R/E area, yet, those same people seem to keep making posts there.
With the election now over, I'm trying to gauge if a change is needed.
My thoughts are to call it the P-R/E area, meaning Politics for Railroading and Extreme threads. The religion part can be tossed as it definately has nothing to do railroads. The Extreme threads are to be more of a humorous nature, but a bit more out there than what's seen in the chit chat area. I can see the need for some political talks as there's lots of railroad issues that involve gov't in some form, but I'd like to see it limited to just political talks involving railroads.

What are your thoughts? Also, please vote.(voting open for 5 days)

I think it is fine, but perhaps it should be political relating only to rail/transport/economy.

That pretty much says it all. Those same people want to keep making political posts, and silence or ban anyone who they disagree with. Kinda like "Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists"! It's the same crowd. These people, when confronted with facts that refute their point of view, go behind others backs, and whine and complain, but want to be allowed to keep posting their own viewpoints. If they don't "enjoy" those types of posts, I'm not aware of anyone twisting their arms and forcing them to click on them, and read them. But of course, it's more than that. What they really want is to silence the opposing viewpoint!
Now, in keeping with the new trend toward transparency, please post the names of all the complainers, for all of us to see.

Good reason why we need to get rid of it, MORE UNFOUNDED FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I ocasonally post on the PRE board, I nowhere near take is as far as some people, 90% of my posts are in the RR section. And If you read my posts (witch I find out most people dont read anyways, mine or anyone elses is what am trying to say) you would see that I walk both sides for the better, of the country, and if you dont believe me go back and actually read them. I know of others in the same position I am in. Maybe everyone needs to remember why we came to this site to beging with, for the TRAINS!, not PRE junk. I honestly say just get rid of it all together. If we talk about RR related goverment subjects why can it not go into the off subject or something.

So until people can come up with COLD HARD FACTS, instead of BS comments like the one above that have only part of the truth, please dont post you just look stupid.

And no this is not a personal attack on Hoborich, as he is not the only one to make comments like this, just the first here.

Oh and if you mean complainers by those that vote to change it YOU CAN COUNT ME IN!

By now I know who's vocally liberal, who's vocally conservative, who really dislikes Bush and who really dislikes Obama and numerous other non - railroading topics. I don't mind a little debate and expressing of opinions but there's a few of you that take it way too far. If the PRE board went completely away, I'd still check the board way too many times a day and post when I can contribute to a thread.

Yeah, I think if there is going to be a political forum, it should be limited to politics of railroads/transportation, as that does play an important role in the industry.

I also believe at the same time that talk about politicians or other crap is really not needed. It doesn't really matter to me much though, since I usually don't even care about whats posted there.

It's pretty interesting. There is another forum that I visit that has all the related categories, and just a plain Chit Chat forum. For the most part we don't really have any problems. I think the biggest difference is the age demographic. I noticed there are a lot more younger people here compared to the other forum.

REGARDLESS OF WHATEVER CHANGES ARE MADE TO THE P/R/E BOARD , I BELIEVE ADMITTANCE TO THE AREA BE LIMITED TO THOSE THAT CONTRIBUTE TO ZACK. I DON'T LIKE FREELOADERS.
HOW ABOUT A MINIMUM $20.00 /YR. TO GAIN ADMITTANCE ? NO PAY-NO POSTING AND NO SEEING OTHER POSTS ON P/R/E.
PAY TO PLAY. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

AS FOR FACTS EXPRESSED---A LOT OF OPINIONS ARE BEING CONFUSED WITH FACTS.
MANY POSTERS HERE DON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.
THEY BELIEVE THEY SPEAK FACTUAL AND ALL OPPOSED TO THEIR FACTS ARE EXPRESSING OPINIONS THAT ARE WRONG [BECAUSE THEY SAY SO].
AL GORE WANNA BEEZZZ.!!!!!

PS---I AGREE WITH MATT [HIS OPINION] THAT THE P/R/E/AREA BE ELIMINATED [THIS IS MY OPINION ].
PPS---HERE'S AN EXAMPLE OF AN OPINION BEING CONFUSED WITH FACT...These people, when confronted with facts that refute their point of view,

That is the way it is on one of the pilot's forums I moderate. Political comment is allowed only insofar as it involves aviation, and I think the same should apply here. On one aviation forum, I watched friends become bitter enemies because of political discussion.

We can have civil discussion on the politics of railroading without going for each others throats.

I have a better suggestion: Leave it up, lock it down entirely and/or limit it's access to moderators and administrators only. When the 2012 elections roll around and politics begin seeping into the forums again (and you know they will), then we could consider opening it again.

Get's my vote too. I'd hate to see it get to a point where our "meets" are affected by views on there.

I have no problem with it the way it is. You can go to the control panel and put
names in the "foes" box. I have done so and I can no longer see the posts by
the "trolls" that responded early in this thread. Steve and PAT,in particular,
should consider doing the same.

The technique worked dealing with the potty-mouthed little brats in grade school
and we are dealing with the same mentality here.

I'll third that. We got along just fine before the PRE board came around.

While I like to read SOME of the stuff, I could take it or leave it....

perhaps I actually listened to my dad and followed some of his advise about not having anything nice to say.... except about the Darwin candidates' who tempt fate in front of me :!: :!:

Hey CAP'T, did I see you inside the station Mon night when I was waving at you from the rear of the train?? If so, at least you were smart enough to stay inside and stay warm and still see the train, unlike those younger guys who stood out in the cold

since personal beliefs are just that..personal...there is extreme passion on "both sides of the aisle"...

but one shouldnt be judged ridiculed or otherwise "frowned" upon for expressing their personal beliefs whatever they may be...whether ya wear a tinfoil hat or not ..

some of us are guilty of the "judging" and some of us may feel we have been judged based on our expression of personal beliefs ..

this forum is a great place to talk trains share experiences and even branch off on the "what if's" in RRing and i for one would hate to feel unwelcome here because of my views nor would i feel right about making someone else feel unwelcome (if i have i appologize) for personal political views..

i would think that any Transportation related political issue would be well covered in the general RR section under the proper location

i vote to remove it...

I believe we should remove it, we always talk about taking it down and then nothing happens, and I feel that there has been a change in the overall feeling of the board now. I voted yes.
