2 decent catches in 45 minutes in Bloomfield Hills

After spending the morning at M1 concourse driving a hellcat, I decided to make a stop at Opdyke Road with the hopes of seeing E251 with a somewhat noteworthy lashup.

I arrived to a flashing yellow (or advanced approach) signal on track #2. I was hoping the wait would be quick, and it was. 5 minutes later and the gates were going down, but not for E251! It was a very early L515 returning back north to Pontiac, with it’s normal cars picked up from the Detroit/Mt. Clemens area (including a minimally tagged Cotton Belt boxcar still bearing SSW reporting marks).

It was only 7-8 minutes after 515 passed that signal jumped from an approach to clear, which meant E251 was not far behind.

30 minutes later and the sound of two hard working locomotives could be heard, the two locomotives being heard were the locomotives on E251. This lashup was pretty cool with a 100th anniversary paint GEVO and a thundercab UP SD70ACe that’s a bit on the toasty side.

Most railfans I know bash the 100th anniversary GEVO’s. Sure, it’s not much, but it’s something different other than the wet noodle, and the logos on the side also look cool.

After that, I went home and immediately fell asleep! I had been up since 5:45 in the morning, and spending most of the morning/part of the afternoon outside in the not-so-ideal air quality had really taken a toll on me.

More reports coming soon!

Somehow I’ve only managed to see 2 100 units so I don’t mind them lol
