I was told if hazmat cars aren’t in the system by last Thursday AM at 00:01 for shipment in or to Canada they would not be accepted.Delray wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 5:58 pmhttps://www.trains.com/trn/news-reviews ... as-aug-22/

Supposedly, the same goes for intermodal not already in port as well.

What impact will it have on CPKC and CN operations in the US that are not cross-border but involve local switching or moves like chemicals and plastic pellets oirginating in Texas and going to the Midwest? I imagine they will still get interchange from other Class I railroads in the US. I can imagine the container traffic on CN will be gone as will lumber products on both railroads since they mostly originate in Canada.

There’s no impact to US cars. This is for Canadian originate it destination traffic.SecondCreek wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 8:36 amWhat impact will it have on CPKC and CN operations in the US that are not cross-border but involve local switching or moves like chemicals and plastic pellets oirginating in Texas and going to the Midwest? In Canada they can have management run priority trains so intermodal and autoracks.
The last strike/lockout happened a few years ago and we had manifests like M394 and M396 stacked up on the Flint sub at sidings and on thorofares etc…
There were trains parked on the Holly sub as well.

I am told CSX plans to embargo (ie not pick up) any traffic bound for Canada. A lot of our local shortlines will be hurting if that comes to pass.

Wondering if we are going to see a surge in intermodal traffic like we saw in November of 2019. That would be something. Plus I wonder if CN will just stage all of their mixed freight trains in Sarnia. American crews can be profiled to enter Sarnia. Also I was wondering, how does this affect trains like A492, M396 and Q122 when they got Flint and Battle Creek bound cars? The trains I can see not running would be M302, M301, M397 and M394 because they don't work any yards in Michigan. I was thinking of doing an all day outing on the Flint Sub before the summer ends and tomorrow would have been perfect but now I am second guessing. Don't feel wasting gas only to see 2 trains.

I don't anticipate a lot of rerouted intermodals like back in November 2019. Most of the management that was qualified to run trains back in the day have since retired. They already did not order a z148 or q122 tonight out of Markham. You should assume a full stop on trains to/from Canada as of 00:01 Thursday morning.

Probably tomorrow we'll see things start back up again. There's a lot of EBs being parked so the tunnel most likely will be a traffic jam for a bit.CSXBOY wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 5:49 pmhttps://abc7chicago.com/post/canadian-n ... /15219178/

Today should be light like yesterday so I would go chase a road railer or something instead of hug the line.

Yeah I ended up doing a bar night on Friday night in East Lansing with friends and we heard a train at around 300 am. Sounded like they were just releasing the westbounds. Woke up at 1200 to the line only having two trains from 1230 ish to 1330 ish.
