It appears this happened on the Conrail bridge at Scotten. Edit: Someone saying this is CN 280? Where was this train going or coming from, then?

Forgive me as I don't know any of the movements, here, but then why would this delay Amtrak and why was it at Scotten?

The media isn't usually the most accurate anymore. Boxcars did not derail, they were Autoracks. But Local 4 at least cares to use spell check unlike Fox 2.

Amtrak had other equipment failures the same day and could have caused the delays and cancellations.

Are you asking why the derailment was at Scotten?

GRHC - you know every night I can imagine he is in front of his computer screen sitting in his underwear swearing profusely and drinking Blatz beer combing the RailRoadFan website for grammatical errors.

Edit: Ah, nevermind. I was confused about the ownership and trackage routes in the area. I thought everything east of West Detroit was used by Conrail & CP. For some reason, I thought CN continued straight up the Detroit Line through West Detroit, and that does not appear to be the case; looks like they get routed around through Bay City Junction, etc.

Still, to make a derailment at/near Scotten sound like it's directly blocking Amtrak's route through the area was what struck me wrong about the reporting.
