Then there is the Michigan Interstate "Ferry in the Fog" scheme (my favorite)

Originally TSBY was yellow and black before Mr. Shepherd changed it to yellow and blue.

Good point. AA has a heritage painted GP38 of the last version.

GLC is partly owned by Watco.

Well according to my inside source GLC is in no way shape or form owned by watco anymore

It could be the two railroads have an agreement for interchange rates or something like that rather than a financial commitment to each other

Watco gave GLC a loan a few years back that gave them a % of ownership along with first right of refusal if they ever decided to sell the railroad, I’m told.

I thought it was that Watco bought a %30 stake into the holding company that owns GLC

Questions:

1) What is your case for GLC to spend $10K+ to repaint the 385? Short lines, even successful ones, need to watch their costs. Make a business case other than railfans.

2) Why would GLC repaint it into another carriers scheme? It's like petitioning CSX to repaint a unit in the UP scheme because they run on ex-C&EI.

I can't find on that site any AA RR symbol or wordmark, alive or dead, registered by any company ever. I did find the GT, PC and PRR logos (the latter registered in 1950 by the railroad and in 1994 by someone as an attempted money grab). CSX re-registered Chessie System in 2016, and Seaboard System in 2017.

The original AA was finally dissolved in 2010, after 34 years of being a paper company that only existed to liquidate the bits that the State of Michigan and others didn't acquire.

The really old stuff would have stayed with the successor companies. NS if the AA pennant was registered by the Wabash, CN if the AA compass was registered by the DT&I. If the AA pennant and compass were registered by the AA itself, rights would have stayed with Penn Central/American Premier Underwriters/American Financial Group.

Of course one would have to consult a lawyer to be certain of anything. The current AA/Watco could probably claim "common law" rights to the mid-'80s AA map logo even though it was apparently never registered. The ferry in the fog (though it apparently wasn't registered anyway) rights probably would have died when the Michigan Interstate dissolved.

Change it from “petition” to “fundraiser” and we’ll see how it goes. Railroads aren’t entitled to give railfans heritage units or blow the money on them.


If you are genuinely serious about wanting GLC heritage units write a few letters out to the company and see if they’ll hop on board with your idea. If you can come up with a feesable plan and have permission from GLC to raise money then go for it. Try talking to people in the community and gather interest for your fundraiser and tell us “why GLC should make heritage units.” Your gonna need someone to design the units so your probably gonna want to reach out. Andy Fletcher who is very active online and was the designer of the NS heritage units might be able to help. This stuff takes money and time. None of it happens overnight.


Just a few ideas so don’t quote me.
