CN Flint Sub Train Symbols

Unread post by CSXBOY »

So I have been railfanning this line a lot in the past couple years. I noticed some new strange symbols like M301, M302 and Q121 as of October 2021. I am probably way behind. If anyone can clarify, do these train symbols look right? I believe this was like this in the summer. Help would be appreciated
Thank you

I've been seeing a 301 recently on the Durand cam, at least someone has been calling it that. Maybe another local?

There was a thread on this a couple months ago, http://railroadfan.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=37697. There has been discussion about the symbol changes here recently- I think.

I thought the 500 series locals were mostly annulled, at least on the east end of the Flint Sub. M301 is a relatively new symbol. It's a replacement for something, perhaps 501?

I thought 148 and 149 had been changed as well, specifically the originating point. They used to be overnight/early morning trains through Port Huron, but I've been seeing one of the really long double stack trains in Port Huron (from the freeway overpass) midday pretty frequently lately- I don't think ice in Canada is causing delays this time of year, like it was when I'd see these trains in the middle of the day in the past.

Wondering if this is a new train or a reroute. I have been seeing M302 a lot as well

M301 is MacMillan Yard to Winnipeg, MB - mixed freight
M302 is the counterpart and usually features a lot of loaded lumber racks as well as
Q120/Q121 are intermodals to/fro Halifax, NS to Markham, IL I believe but it could be to points further west too.

We started getting 301/2 this summer w some major work on the shield rerouted some trains our way. They seem to be keeping 301/2 our way about 5-6 days a week.

We usually see 1 or 2 120/121s a week since reroutes earlier this summer.

Other rerouted trains we saw were M348, B731, Q123

I’m calling the symbols out in the Train Updates post so feel free to ask me what they are.

I’ll confirm the Q120/1 and edit
