Figured this was the best place to post - CSX 513 currently sitting in the east end of the siding at Brighton.
D708 will pick up 513 and take it to Peaker.

NRE has phased out work at Silvis. Its all done now at Mt. Vernon and Paducah, Kentucky.

They announced it over a year ago.
Dixmoor was also closed.

If you're talking about the load test unit...
To load test a diesel electric locomotive while stationary, you need to generate lots of electricity and send it somewhere.
Like the resistor grid of a SD45 unit.

there was nothing attached to it, its a tesla thing and is powered by a battery to the traction motors. i am talking about it moving on its own power with no motor

If capable of moving on its own might that mean it's required to meet FRA locomotive regulations?

A nicely written overview type article with some pictures.
I liked the car engine next to the locomotive engine.
Just a teeny bit of size difference there.

Does anyone know if Peaker is going to equip any more CSX AC44’s with DPU tech? It seems like the engines that are getting it are being rebuilt to CM44’s.

All of the 500 and 5100 series units that were part of Peaker's work have been completed except for a few that are currently scheduled for rebuild at Ft. Worth. 580, plus 497 are two more sent to Ft. Worth over the weekend. If CSX puts more DPU on other models or number series Peaker may get more of them but that is not scheduled at the moment.

Actually, the opposite. The 500 series and 5100 series AC4400s that Peaker and others equipped with DPU are not currently slated to be rebuilt, which is why CSX chose to install DPU on them now.

Which is where I was eloquently leading myself to, are they bringing anymore units in?

You said "it seems like engines that are getting it (DPU) are getting rebuilt to CM44s". That is incorrect. The engines CSX has been equipping with DPU have not been getting rebuilt. The actual CM44AC program is separate from this.

For peaker services expect some heavy traffic after the holidays, DPU csx work, plus some motor work
