MOW on CSX Grand Rapids area

Unread post by dave989 »

I saw a MOW crew working in Wyoming Yard today. I'm curious what other MOW projects are scheduled for 2021 on CSX G. R. Sub?

Principally, they are getting the Even Yard, or west end classification bowl, back into service.

Do they really need too? Seems like the Odd Yard could handle most of everything

Increase of traffic says otherwise. Wyoming has been the most stuffed I have seen in years these past few weeks.

Its funny because less than two months ago there was talk of ripping out the even yard. Funny how fast railroads change.

So it turns out that the info on rehabbing the Even Yard was incorrect. They worked the Odd Yard and have left.

Word is the Even Yard starts getting ripped out this week.

The "word" over the winter was the odd yard was being ripped out. The last few weeks proved that wrong. Let's wait and see what happens.

I don’t think anyone ever said the odd yard was being ripped out, as that’s what they’ve been using while the even has been locked out for the past year and a half.

Is the work begin last year around New Richmond and the Kzoo River Bridge complete or is there more to be done this year?

That was a bridge re-decking and judging from the recent photos it's all done.

It looks like the track equipment that had been working in the yard at Wyoming and then taken east on D706 has been spotted near Oak Yard/Detroit.

MOW crew @ MP 6 with red placards next to the right of way. Looks like some tie replacement were the switches are in Grandville near Wilson Ave.
Also Sperry rail truck was at Pleasant St. getting out of the way of D705 this morning.

The slow order at MP 6 in Grandville has been lifted for now. New ties were installed at the WE switch were double track goes to single near Wilson Ave. I've observed the Sperry Rail truck all over the area this week so I'm sure more MOW is coming.

MOW is back at MP 6 in Grandville working on both switches. Hopefully, no more malfunctions at the Wilson Ave. crossing. The flashers and gates sometimes malfunctioned with no train around.

Today I see new ties along the main line starting at MP 6 westward past Wilson thru Grandville. Must be tie replacement and resurfacing coming. Hope someone knows when this will take place.
