Watco from what I was told wanted to go with non specific units so they can be used all over their systems. Unfortunately lost with that is public relations in specific regions. Only the red/white colors of WC seem to be lasting the longest.

Strange. Perhaps in some areas the engines change properties more often. A simple decal (that can be changed) adds personality to the railroad and projects pride in their operation. I expect WSOR will change as they create Fox Valley & Lake Superior Railroad and expand into northern Wisconsin and the upper peninsula.

When WATCO took over the WSOR there was a clause in there stating that the WSOR would keep its paint scheme, and all new engines for the WSOR would be painted in the Red/Silver paint.

Yep, you are right. I was looking at an old photo. It appears to have lost the decal sometime between 2019 and 2021.
Does 4002 still have the DREI logo?

Yep, you are right. I was looking at an old photo. It appears to have lost the decal sometime between 2019 and 2021.

When 4017 returned from her rebuild she was "property neutral" without a logo. Believe that was in 2020 but not totally sure.
4002 left the Elk for rebuild and was then assigned to D&E where she was labelled by employees when some extra stickers were found.

It was on one of Virtual Railfan’s grab bags, The engine was kinda dirty to be quite honest.

Do you know if it is coming in on the mainline from the East or is it coming from the spur from the East? If it’s coming from the spur then more than likely it’s coming from Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids. If it’s coming through on the mainline then I have no idea where it would be coming from.

07 and 08 were rebuilt at MEI. They are going to the GDLK to replace the leas units.

As I was watching Jason Asselion's video on youtube, EL&S Russell Snowplow in Action, I was thinking about that Russell snowplow that sets or used to set in Hughart Yard. Is it still there? Has Grand Elk done anything with it, repainted and/or restore it to operational condition? When was the last time that it was used, Conrail or Norfolk Southern? Would be cool to see it in use again if we get a heavy snowfall this winter.

The plow is kept serviceable and sits in Hugart. The journal oil was changed in the last few years as it still has plain bearings. When we had that super cold spell here about 3-4 years ago when the railroad shut down for a few days it was nearly brought out.
Also on a related note, Pfizer will no longer be receiving unit coal trains for their power plant as the plant has switched to natural gas and exhausted the coal pile. Infrastructure regarding the use of the coal will eventually be removed. As far as I can tell, I was able to film what most likely was the last unit train of coal for them in the middle of 2020 on a heads up, and I'm glad I was able to document it.

That is good to news about the plow. I hope to one day catch it in action, either in person or on YouTube.

Do you know if Pfizer and the airport are still in talks of moving the rail line so they can extend the runways to the south? I think it was a few years ago that they were discussing this but I don’t remember hearing or seeing anything else about it.
