Well today I think I may have seen the longest train run by a shortline ever.
Today about 4pm SBS came in from Flint with 193 cars!! 132 freight on the head end, 61 grain mtys behind that. Power was BNSF 5864, BNSF 5861 both ES44ACs. The train was yarded as follows; came into the outbound. Freight went to the receiving yard. The 2003 and 3500 tied onto the 61 grain mtys and put that into the east yard.
Longest shortline train ever. Today's NB SBS?

My guess is around 11,000-12,000' or a little over 2 miles.
