Ludington Windmill Trains

I didn't want to derail today's CSX update thread, so made this thread...

1. Is this a far-out rumor or has there been progress with getting a wind farm installed up there?
2. When about would these be (month, year, decade, century)?

Feel free to just talk about this matter too...

Google is your friend, my source is pretty reliable but I didn't press for a lot of details.

The sand mine at Berry Junction is where Nugent will mine when their current mine west of the Henry St engine house is done. Sargent sand is mining frac sand near Ludington and currently is trucking it to Nugent for drying / processing and loading into rail cars. That all will be done at their new plant near Ludington . If you Google Sargent Sand you can find an article on the two competitors working together.

Ehh, by the time they start running, it will likely be Rail America Property

Does that mean these tracks will be removed then?

There are no customers on that segment once Nugent closes. There is a yard and some engine service facilities that get used. I do not know what the final outcome will be :?

so to confirm they are closing the plant then too? i was wondering if maybe they'd left the processing plant open :?

My guess as to the fate of the yard would be that they'd leave it in, and use it as a storage yard. Probably just end the track at the first crossing. anyone know where the first Kiamachi Unit went? There is only one outside now, and I didn't see it at the north yard...perhaps inside the GTW engine house?

they have been doing a bit of work on the two kiamichi units up at Muskegon. most likely one is in the house being worked on. I saw both of them out of the house a few weeks ago. Other than the fact that they are being worked on i am unsure of the current condition of the two units.

Does anybody have an official close date of the current nugent sand mine?

Reliable source said the Kiamichi units were "junk". Nugent was supposed to be closed by now but asked the DEQ for an extension on their mining permit since the "recession" had signifiantly reduced the demand for sand.

First train coming from the Pueblo, CO area on UP, SSJCXW 25, is enroute, currently at Sharon Springs, KS. Routing is Salina-Kansas City-St. Louis-Villa Grove-Chicago/CSX. 51 loads-4971 feet, UP 7795/UP 6237 (ex-SP, but UP paint). TENTATIVE arrival at Barr Yard is 4/28 2300, don't know if the power will stay or go. How do I know it's going to Ludinton? Right at the top of the train summary, it's common name is "Ludington 1"!

Darn they won't be northbound to Ludington this weekend :x

Unless they get to Chicago and CSX gets them up to GR by Sunday morning

Wishful thinking I suppose

Is that they are leaving GR at 5am or they are called in Chicago at 5am?

Also, does anyone know if they will be doing a restriced speed, and if so, what speed?

They deadhead to Chicago, then the crew has to be rested so the train will probably leave overnight tonight and come thru in the early morning.
