CSX Action Fri-Sat

Unread post by SD80MAC »

Caught Q326 on Friday just before it left the yard. Had HCLX 8172, CSX 8118, and 6 cars. Image
Then Y104 (I think) switched a bunch of cars and spotted a reefer at Michigan Cold Storage, right in front of us! Was cool to see, never seen them go down that track before. Also saw 9119 switching the BIDS.

After dinner we heard D802 coming in from the west and caught it in Jenison with a CSX SD70AC and AC4400.

Saturday started with luckily hearing S327 approaching Thornapple, and we caught them going across the Thornapple River bridge. Had CSX 8118 and HLCX 8172, same power for Q326 yesterday.

After he went by a maintainer at the west end of Elmdale got clearence to head to Fox, and we caught his High Railer in Alto.
Image
After that we headed out to Lake Odessa to meet a friend, and D908 came through with 4 CSX Geeps, a few RBOX's and other misc. freight, and rougly 20-30 brand new GATX Tanks.
Image
Where could these be headed we wondered? So we waited around a bit and D908 ran around their train in Lake O, grabed the string of tanks and a gondola as an idler car, and headed east. We caught them at Woodbury and low and behold they dropped the tanks at the new Ethanol Plant!
Image
They put them in the wrong track first so they had to come out again, blocking M-66 for a while.

Was neat to see, didn't know the plant was getting cars yet. :) 8) [/img]

I'm not sure why it was called S327. I've seen/heard S326's and S334's too, rather than Q326 and Q334. Maybe someone could explain this better?

S trains are usually second section trains. Perhaps, there was an earlier Q327 during the day, and a second one ran the same calender day.

Gregg, told me he thought S327 was an extra 52 cars for Holland. Atleast that is what he gathered from it.
