Re: Michigan Cabooses
I need to go back to check these out, and dig through my assortment of photos.
I think it is a wood, cupola caboose sitting near the Bloomingdale depot on the Kal-Haven trail.
Also another one along the trail near Alamo, NW of Kalamazoo.
I need to check, but I think there is a steel? cupola caboose near the old train depot in South Haven near the Dykman Drawbridge.

Hi,
There's a wood, cupola, caboose reported as "AA? #?, Lake Leelenau, on the west side of town".
Can anyone confirm that it's AA, have any idea of the road number, &/or have a better location for this hack?
Thanks, Roger

Hi Neal,
Nice shot of GTW 77920! Built in 1925 as part of the GTW 77900 - 77924 series, it certainly wasn't the last wood caboose built for the GTW.
GTW 77956 - 77957 were built new in 1926 and GTW 77958 - 77977, while owned by CNR, were built new for lease to GTW in 1927.
Thanks, Roger

Re: Michigan Cabooses
Whose caboose is this?
A red, wooden caboose, with cupola, on its own small section of track near the GLC just west of Harrietta south of No. 30 Rd. I think it's at a museum, but I couldn't find an access road to it.

Lansing, MI, Cabooses
Hi,
There are 2 cabooses in Lansing, MI, for which there is a lack of information:
C&O/TT? #?, wood, cupola, Capitol Hill Station, marked(?) as "6257" as it was years ago when it sat on a side track in Williamston, MI. R.S. Baibak is/was reported to be the owner.
GTW #?, steel, transfer, Lansing Board of Water and Light, marked as "Play It Safe". I'd guess this is a Safety Town location.
Any help with the road numbers of the above cabooses will be appreciated.
Cheers, Roger
P.S. I tended bar at the Sportsman's Bar across the street from the Motor Wheel Corp. in Lansing in the early 1960s!

GTW Steel Cabooses
Hi,
A number of us, here and on a handful of Yahoo groups, have been working on improving the listing of captive/displayed/off-line/out-of-service cabooses in Michigan and GTW cabooses in particular. (Scroll back to Sept. 6th for the ATSF to GTW numbers for 36 of the 40 used cabooses that the GTW bought from the Santa Fe.)
Here are a few steel ATSF &/or GTW crummies for which there are still questions:
Galesburg - ATSF? #? to GTW #?, Dr. James Smith, S. 38th St., south of town;
Owosso? - ATSF #? to GTW #? to T&SB (no markings), was for sale in T&SB Yard in mid 1990s;
Port Huron Township - (ATSF to?) GTW #?, Township Hall, from Port Huron & Kimball, MI;
South Haven - ATSF #? to GTW #?, Caboose Hotel, Dyckman Ave. & Dunkley Ave.;
White Pigeon - ATSF #? to GTW? #? to MS 04945, Michigan Southern RR, 69239 S. Kalamazoo St.
It's likely possible to get the GTW number for the Galesburg, Port Huron Twp., and White Pigeon cars and not out of the question for the South Haven hack. The Owosso information is probably lost in the mists of time.
Your assistance on this project will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Roger

GTW 75026, MI, Caboose
Hi,
Steel, cupola, ATSF 1525 to GTW 75026 caboose has been reported in Adrian and Lenawee Junction, MI.
These reports could be for the same location but need a current address, in any case.
Thanks, Roger

Re: Michigan Cabooses
Searched the thread and the forum and didn't see this caboose in Plainwell mentioned:
Not sure I am up on the conventions for describing them--
Wood, cupola, caboose, GTW 77904
It's sitting out behind Eesley Place Banquets on Bridge Street.

Hi,
Sometime in the mid 1990s, 4 cabooses showed up on property adjacent to the South Bend East KOAGranger, IN.
One of them, steel, cupola, DT&I 104 to GT/DTI 104, ended up in a backyard in Niles, MI.
Does anyone have an address for #104?
Cheers, Roger

Re: Michigan Cabooses
Hi,
There are 2 cabooses reported at Buckley Old Engine Show, Buckley, MI:
Wood, cupola, CV E/F 129, http://www.railroadmichigan.com/cabbuckley.jpg , which has wreck damage and its ACI panel, http://www.nakina.net/other/aci/aci.html . E/F 129 is not a standard Central Vermont road number so I wonder if anyone is close enough to go there and read the ACI panel to see what road number it lists? Buckley is on M-37 less than 20 miles south of Traverse City. &
Steel, transfer (a rare N&W caboose), NW 518704, formerly at Alanson & Traverse City, MI.
Thanks, Roger

Re: Michigan Cabooses
Hi Roger,
In reference to Caboose BN 10297, it was owned by Dave Pulse who lives near Chassel and he stored it at the old Hogan Ore Yard siding in Negaunee. I bought this caboose from him a few years ago and moved it near my home in Falmouth, Michigan. I have hopes of restoring it. I wonder if it was formerly owned by Great Northern as it has some light blue paint under the green paint. I am putting in a short chunk of rail to store it on and recently installed a Bumping Post. Also plan on putting in a switch that I have acquired and would like to eventually come up with a flatcar and boxcar to go with the Caboose.
Hope this helps, Steve

If it's ex-GN it can't be BN 10297.
