I saw that map, just wasn't clear if Watco bought everything that was for sale or passed on anything.

Grand Elk will purchase the Munising and White Pine subs and FOXY another Watco subsidiary purchases the rest from what I'm told. It'll be interesting but at least the paper mill in Munising will still have service.

Just looking at the STB filing documents. The White Pines sub is interesting. The Grand Elk will acquire the line from the Wisconsin/Michigan state line to White Pines. FOXY will acquire from Marengo Jct to the Wisconsin/Michigan state line.

FOXY is a new WATCO operation called the Fox Valley & Lake Superior Rail System LLC.

All trackage is being acquired from the Wisconsin Central Ltd. of Michigan and Wisconsin.

I suppose it makes sense for the Grand Elk to be the named railroad operator in Michigan where they already have operations.
I doubt trains will interchange between FOXY and GDLK at the state line. I expect they will run through.

Isn't the line west of Munising pulled up? Thought that line ran from Trout Lake to Munising where it terminates.

Trout Lake to Munising Jct., then up to Munising. Munising Jct. to Marquette is gone.

Current Munising Line CN operations are based out of Newberry, right? One day round trip to Trout Lake, the next round trip to Munising, etc.? I suppose the small yard in Trout Lake is set up well enough for good interchange with another operator on the branch.

CN then will only access Soo, Ontario via the bridge from the US?

It is a four day rotation: Newberry to a Munising. Munising to Newberry. Newberry to Trout Lake and return. Day off. Repeat.

Watco is hoping to begin service on affected UP-Wisconsin lines on June 30. But Wisconsin shipping groups are trying to put the brakes on the deal:

Interesting to me that CN is keeping the line up to Baraga, but will sell the line to Munising

CN has fairly close ties (no pun intended) to the place up there that burns ties for electric generation. I believe they send most if not all of their ties removed in the US to them, if not some from Canada too.

Thank you for bringing that up, Saturnalia.

As of several years ago they were only "allowed" to burn approximately 50,000 tons per year of used railroad ties. However, they have the capacity to burn as much as approximately 180,000 tons per year (similar number to the plants in lower Michigan including Lincoln and McBain).

Would you say that L'Anse is getting about 10 cars a week or higher (1,800 would equal about 36 cars per week)
