Re: Michigan Rail business news redux
The biggest potential customer in my opinion would be East Jordan Iron Works. There have been rumors for years about them possibly wanting rail service towards their facility. Otherwise it would be interesting to see what other potential customers there could be.joeyuboats wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 8:50 pmWatch--- the bridge will get rebuilt, but business will not increase that much at all. What else needs to go, or be shipped from north of the bridge??

Re: Michigan Rail business news redux
A short siding was rebuilt south of Elmira for EJIW and there are materials in the yard but I’m not aware of any rail service yet.
Also, it’s my understanding the EJIW spur on CSX west of Lansing is disconnected.
So while I also keep hearing rumors about EJIW resuming rail service it doesn’t seem like they are making any effort to accomplish it.

I guess I didn’t really word this very well. I too enjoy reading a physical newspaper, but haven’t had a consistent subscription for years. I buy them at retailers.

Switch and track both still in as of last week when I was there at Sunfield.

Re: Michigan Rail business news redux
In Sunfield it looks like (per the Google Maps Sat View), that the passing siding is long gone. The switch the elevator is gone. It does appear the EJ switch is still in place. I don't know how old the view is or if anything has changed.

Thank you for correcting me. Do you know if EJIW still gets rail service there?

That is unfortunate.
How many cars do they average a week?

Has this been discussed yet? This will be located in Hemlock, MI - potential for rail service? Looks like a pretty big place.

Re: Michigan Rail business news redux
My guess would be no rail service. I don't know that the materials they need would be coming in and I highly doubt the outbound product would be shipped by rail.David Lang wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 9:24 amHas this been discussed yet? What concerns me is the industry they are in combined with the current political climate of this country and how it will impact the workforce expected at the plant.

The siding at Sunfield I want to say was pulled in the last 5-6 years or so when management was in the process of removing anything and everything up here that could be pulled.

Re: Michigan Rail business news redux
I guess at one point when the current EJIW facility was built plans for a spur were drawn up and considered but nothing came of it at the time. Curious what way they would've came into the plant given that a crossing of 131 would've more then likely had to occur. Do you go straight across the fields due west of the Buzzi spurs or do you go north from Deadmans Hill Road? Both routes are roughly the same but the first would be a tad longer. There's plenty of space around the facility for a small yard of some kind.chapmaja wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 8:18 amThe biggest potential customer in my opinion would be East Jordan Iron Works. It would be rather poetic for EJIW to go back to using rail when the last time they quit using rail up that way directly lead to the death of the EJ&S.
