CP Haulage Trains

Unread post by Typhoon »

In addition to the X500, starting on Monday, the CP will start running two haulage trains in EACH DIRECTION from Bensenville, to Rougemere. It will be the X740 and the X742 eastbound, and the X741 and the X743 westbound.

Will these be running via Grand Rapids? If so, that's fantastic news!!!!

I think these are just temporary, If they are what I think they are. Not sure just a guess. We already had a CP reroute due to the flooding. K82010 ran yesterday, to Detroit. K82013 & K82014 are also pland to run. These are phospate trains that normally run to Chicago, and get handed off. I had heard that they might be a few general freights, from the CP, for the next couple of weeks, due to the flooding, but most thought they might run via the NS.

Where is CSX going to find enough people to run two more CP trains in each direction, temporary or otherwise? They will probably wind up running via Garett which is already over crowded as it is because Grand Rapids has no available crews. I was shocked to hear yesterdays X500 running with three CP units as I had not seen an X500 running with more than one unit this year unless it had lease power with the one CP. I did not see the train but perhaps it was heavy with reroute traffic. Todays X500-14 shows two CP units if it really does.

Well i would say believe it. These are trains that are running the long way around Canada, and into the US via Michigan, as the tracks our OSS in Wisconsin.

I don't think one has anything to do with the other. I think the EJE deal is a way to help avoid all the Chicago conjestion regarding CN traffic with the UP. I think the CSXT proposal is to allow CN to route traffic heading south for St Louis & Texas a faster & more direct route than operating out of Flat Rock north into Detroit & Durand and then west over a very less-than-straight route into Chicago. Running south to Lang and then south on CSXT to Ridgeway and then west on the ex Conrail line to St Louis would be a much shorter route to St Louis rather than via Durand & Chicago. Now, whether it would be quicker or not depends on the CSXT's ability to handle the extra traffic.

There has to be something coming out of Rougemere soon. I thought one of the Westbound CP trains was coming out of the tunnel earlier today?
