CSX Motive Power Update (for Patrick)

Unread post by Mr. Tops »

Since my site is temporarilty down with some difficulties, I'll post my latest CSX Motive Power update on here, since I know Patrick wants to see it and would've put it on here anyhow, but couldn't and can't cuase ya'll can't see it! I can still work on/update the site, you just can't see it. Hopefully, I'll have it back up tomorrow (Friday).

Anyhow, here's the SCOOP...

MPU 21

--January 20, 2006
-CSX's remaining original ex-SBD C30-7s will be joining the ex-CR 7100-series GE's. The 9 C30-7s have been sold and are to be in Waycross by the end of January. Remaining unit numbers are: 7016, 7037, 7039, 7052, 7054, 7055, 7059, 7073, 7088.
-After losing it's mother (GP39 4280) to a main generator failure in late 2005, SWMT 1040 has been adopted by GP38-2 2507, which is being readied for the slug.
-All GEVO (ES44DC) units still in primer, are due at GE by January 28 for paint. 13 total units, included are: 5212, 5213, 5217, 5221, 5224, 5227, 5228, 5231, 5232, 5233, 5234, 5243, 5246.

Bob. is there any way you can find out where they have been sold to? This is the saddest news i've heard in a long time because they are in fact the last C30-7's on any class one in north america. Mexico has many but I highly doubt i'll be going to mexico any time soon. I'm sure all these units are enroute to brazil. A sad day indeed to the CSXT and railroads in general. the Dash 7 was a great loco and pulled some of the heavest trains the railroads ever had. Combined with EMD's SD40-2 they were used on coal trains for all the us's class ones and were a testament to how well a GE can truely be. Sure they weren't good for switching, but they weren't supposed to be any more than a AC unit is. Put them on the road though and nothing out preformed it during its time peroid. Its not hard to see the C30-7 is my all time favorite locomotive and ask any of my friends and they'll be able to tell you that. Long live the OLD GE's. Sure wish GE would bring back the standard cab...these wide cabs suck too!

My site is "The Midwest Railfan". http://www.midwestrailfan.com

It's back up and running now.

Sorry Patrick, if I knew anything about where all the C30-7's were sold to, I would've added that in the report. Hopefully, we'll find out soon. I wouldn't doubt they are going to Brazil, either...
