My Grandma got stopped by a set of three at that intersection a few weeks ago, and commented that they had police at the intersection and it took a minute or two for them to clear, backing up Alpine a little ways....J T wrote:Hence my "made a mess" comment earlier. I'd love to see them make those turns. I assume (because I haven't seen them close up) that the rear wheels on the trailer are steerable. They remain locked on the straightaways and at speed but have joystick controls and are unlocked to turn cornersJ T wrote:Hence my "made a mess" comment earlier. Re: Ludington Windmill Trains
These Trail King trailers have steerable axles. This one made a right hand turn in front of me onto the freeway on-ramp. His escort nosed into traffic forcing it to stop, then the semi came off the right shoulder and swung way out and made his turn. Didn't take any longer to turn than a regular semi truck. They held up traffic for about 45 seconds. The steerable axles look cool.
In Mason County there is a couple already trying to sell their four-bedroom house on 16 acres because they don’t care to look at the three 476-foot wind turbines they can see from there.

After a small lull, 2 more trains heading that way.
First one, SSJCX 28 is called out of Villa Grove for 7/2 0325. Scheduled arrival at Barr is 7/2 1600, so an o'dark thirthy arrival into MI. DPU is UP 5819, 56 loads, 5199 ft.
Second train, SBRCX 28 is just out of St. Louis. Schedlued arrival at Barr is 7/2 2239, so this one has a better chance of some decent sunrise shots in MI. DPU is UP 6642, 25 loads, 2424 ft.

SJC is a Ludington train, so it is obviously going VIA Grand Rapids. The other one is a Flint train...we shall see which way it runs, I give it a 50/50 shot.

At 10:15, saw a tower part on a flat bed truck southbound at alpine turning left onto the highway toward lansing.
Saw another one 10 minutes later headin the same way.

On the way south this morning, passed the northbound SSJCX at Goodwine. All towers except a flat or two of generators and an empty PEYX bulkhead on the rear, or what will be the head end for you guys.

There was a northbound by my house in Perrysburg last night that had 3 or 4 flats with nacelles on them behind the power. Must be going to the Flint project as well?

I've got some pics of the unloading area up there, just have to find time to get them up on the gallery.

If anyone comes to ludington let me know, I would love to meet up. Also, do the GR guys ever meet up or hang out? I work in GR during the week and could meet up.

Re: Ludington Windmill Trains
The Badger has been posting pictures and some videos of tower sections. Looks like they have been sending a good number of them across. As a matter of fact they had to turn Kevin Costner away because they couldn't accommodate his tour buses on a night crossing because of the tower sections. Costner and Modern West performed July 9th in Minneapolis and wanted to cross the lake for a July 11th show in Lansing.
Some pics of the towers outside.

Re: K232
There were some components coming over from Europe. Sure sounds like the generating units, but I thought those were already inside their compartements which were on 8-axle cars, which would generally symbol something heavy is in there, AKA the generator!Doktor No wrote:K232 coming out of Walbridge Wednesday morning with a short windmill train for the Marquette. Cars are out of St. Luc, Quebec. Without looking at the waybills I assume they came inbound via ship from Europe via Montreal? Or maybe some plant in Montreal produced the load? Dunno. I'm thinking they are the power units?? We shall see.
Crew is in place. Thats amazing in itself!
Big thanks for the heads up! I might just get to see this one

Re: Ludington Windmill Trains
On a related note, there are parts moving via lake and truck to a new wind farm near Lansing. These parts are being shipped (literally) to Muskegon and then offloaded onto trucks
