CHICAGO (USA Today)-- At least 33 people were taken to local hospitals Monday when an out-of-service Chicago Transit Authority train crashed head-on with another train stopped at a Forest Park, Ill., suburban station west of Chicago, local media report.

The Chicago Tribune quotes the CTA as saying 33 people were taken to nine hospitals, but that there were no serious injuries.

CBS 2 reports that police are investigating the possibility that somebody hijacked an out-of-service CTA train and sent it crashing into the second train.

Suspicion of foul play was raised because the out-of-service train had far fewer cars than a normal rush-hour train, was on the wrong tracks and had nobody at the controls when the crash occurred.

The government shutdown hasn't stopped the federal investigation of the crash. Once the investigators were on the scene on Monday, they were considered "essential Federal Employees" and were protected from being furloughed.
