Only the shop is closing...the hump is still open, at least for now.

Re: CSX Avon Hump & Shop to Close
Looks like this Avon hump closer has been pushed a little further to closing the entire yard. As i'm told by a very close friend that has worked there for last 30 years.

Re: CSX Avon Hump & Shop to Close
On another forum I read that CSX is reopening Transfer Yard. Is this an ex-PRR yard downtown?
Would they use this as a block swapping location?
Very sad news about Avon. I remember that one of first good decisions that PC management made was to have Avon build blocks for the western connections, which resulted in runthru trains, often with foreign power, to be run to the IC, MP and SSW. And when the traffic from the western connections got onto PC, it was blocked for Avon who, in turn classified it for Conway, Buffalo, Selkirk, etc. What is the plan now - to run everything to Willard and classify it there?

Re: CSX Avon Hump & Shop to Close
I've been hearing noise about CSX aggressively closing Avon entirely. Transferring local assignments elsewhere in the city and closing down all remaining activities at Avon. Not sure how true it is, but it's being widely circulated, so if not it is a good rumor at least!

Does CSX_CO not post here anymore? If anyone has the rundown on what's happening in/around Avon, it's him.
