Now sure if anyone heard on the news on Friday but NS wants to purchase the old Southern Railroad from the City of Cincinnati for 1.8 billion dollars. I do believe the railroad generates $36 million a year for Cincinnati. The kicker is for this to be approved it will need to go on the ballot and the residents of Cincinnati will need to vote for the approval. From what I understood that was part of the agreement signed back in the day. The rail is 328 or so miles long runs from Cincnnnati Queensgate Yard to Chattanooga.

Leaders in Cincinnati did not respond yesterday but the deal from what I understand is being weighed on by the City. NS maintains the line and runs the line but the City owns the line. Not sure if anyone here has head anything new to add?

I have some questions:

How many trains does this line see per week?

How many of the trains that are running on the line are intermodal trains?

Does the city need to approve any changes that NS wants to make to the line (such as adding sidings, crossovers, etc)?

Does the city give NS any incentives to operate their trains on the city owned tracks?
