Wind derailnent?

Unread post by AC60CW »

Heard rumors of a train derailment from the straightline winds up by West Unity area. Sounds like maybe a Triple Crown perhaps?

Anyone got anything on this?

I am on my phone, so have no home internet. So I don't have access to much more than this. So, sorry if I might have missed something in chat.

Chicago Line is the closest to West Unity, and there aren't any regular Triple Crown trains on that line.

MELBERN, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Straight line winds ripped a train off of its tracks in Williams County Wednesday.

The derailment happened near Melbern, OH, about 3 miles west of Byran.

No injuries have been reported, but first responders are still going through the area.

There are also multiple reports of trees down in the area.

From the Toledo Blade

A Norfolk Southern intermodal train, hauling freight containers, trailers, or both, derailed between Bryan and Edgerton, Ohio, during the storm, and the Williams County Sheriff's office said it was believed to be weather related.

The accident on the Toledo-Chicago main line between Williams County roads 8 and 9 was reported at 2:26 p.m. No one was injured.

A sheriff's dispatcher said between 40 and 45 cars were reported involved, while a railroad spokesman estimated the derailment at between 10 and 15 cars. The discrepancy may be the result of presence of multiple loading platforms, up to five, within many intermodal railcars.

By 3:20 p.m. all police, fire, and rescue personnel had cleared the scene, leaving the scene under Norfolk Southern's charge, the dispatcher said.

Thanks. Just slow and limited on the phone. Appreciate the link also. All I heard was derailment up that way. Thought immediately of Triple Crowns coming down from the line that runs through Adrian. I know they at one time ran them down that line.

Again, thanks.

There's also a derailment just west of Altoona blocking all three mains.

Here's some picture of the 21T derailment. The derailed cars are located between Williams Co Rd 8 and 9 (Melbern). As of 5 PM, RJ Corman arrived and started to set up on the north side of Co Rd 8. Hulcher had not arrived be the time I left around 5:20 PM.
