The Boston and Southwestern Railroad

Unread post by Derektrainman03 »

The Boston and Southwestern Railroad (Reporting marks B&SW) Is a fallen flag class 3 short line with a very short history. The railroad was created in 1972 to serve the various grain facilities in the greater Boston area. The power for the railroad was three 44 Ton locomotives of former New Haven origins (Now Penn Central). The railroad had two interchange points 1) in Boston, MA and the other at Cambridge, MA. The railroad didn’t have many sales due to the poor state of the Penn Central railroad which only had 7 car loads that goes to the B&SW which it’s grain facilities can house at least 20 cars. By 1976, a day before the government created Conrail, the B&SW declared bankruptcy and the lines were absorbed into the Conrail system which then a year later abandoned the section all together. The grain facilities today are now truck served.
