Amtrak Train Location Update/Heads Up Thread 2023

Amtrak 351 and 353 out of Pontiac are canceled today due to "Unscheduled Track Work." I am guessing this something to do with the New Buffalo accident yesterday?

I noticed that 352 had an extra coach on it yesterday (it went past my house a bit late), probably for the upcoming holiday traffic surge. Too bad that trains are cancelled today as the Thanksgiving rush begins today. Poor Amtrak.

In addition to the two train sets from the cancelled trains sitting in Pontiac today, there is also a lone Venture coach on the depot track north of the depot where there is usually the spare locomotive (of which there was none today).

Here is an odd sighting. At 1:50 pm a CN locomotive, maybe 4805 from the sound of, just went northbound on the Holly Sub. past MP 22.5 with those two grey/greeen private charter cars, a dome and what looked like an open observation car. Those cars that are stored in Ann Arbor that we see a lot on Amtrak. This move may explain the train I heard at 6:40 am today that sounded like a short train or lite power move, the CN locomotive heading somewhere to pick up this train? Who knows but it was fun to see. I am guessing these cars are heading out tonight on Amtrak 355 since it is supposed to run finally. I will be in Pontiac around when it leaves to see.

The private cars are tacked on the rear of Amtrak 355 which is leaving Pontiac right now at 5:27 pm.

All the Amtrak Wolverine trains I have seen since they started running again have an extra coach on them, probably for the Thanksgiving travel week. Six cars instead of five.

Edit: I take this back. 350 only had the usual five cars today, four Ventures and an Amfleet business/snack car.

353 had six Venture coaches and one Amfleet business/snack car this morning for the Thanksgiving travel increase. Only one Charger for the longer train.

A video of 365 (Blue Water) this morning had a pair of Venture coaches, 5 Horizon coaches, and an Amcafe, with a Charger on each end. This is at least one or two additional coaches than usual.

This morning’s 371 (Pere Marquette) had Genesis 55 for power, a pair of Venture coaches, a full Northeast Regional Amcafe, and 2 more Venture coaches. Two more coaches than usual.

Today’s Lake Shore Limited 449 departing Boston has P42s 130 (phase 2) and 46 (50th anniversary) for power. This will roll through northern Ohio and Indiana tomorrow morning.

351 had a P42 this morning and six cars, one extra. I think it had four Ventures and an Amcafe on either end.

Well, I heard what should have been 353 blowing its horn through Pontiac a few minutes ago, the wind is out of the north. But no 353 by my house yet. Wonder what is up, maybe it hit a car? The Amtrak Train Status function says it departed Pontiac on time.

9:50 am update: Train status reports it is stopped east of Pontiac station with "equipment issues." Running an hour late now. Poor Amtrak.

10:50 update: No train 353 yet. Heard the crew talking to the dispatcher about 45 minutes ago and it sounded like they were still planning on leaving Pontiac.

3 pm Update: It did eventually leave Pontiac around 11:10 am. It is running running 2 hours 40 minutes plus hours late now headed to Kalamazoo.

NS 4157 will lead B33 solo out of Jackson to Battle Creek today. Rare AC44C6M on the “Jackson Subdivision” today. Should depart WB around 15:00.

NS B25 od in Jackson since 10:00 with NS 3329/NS 5272 and 53 for Wayne. They have not departed yet.

354 was 4 hours late into Pontiac. It seems the delay was west of New Buffalo.

And this morning 351 has not left pontiac yet, 45 minutes late already and counting.

Amtrak 351 is finally on the move, passing MP 22.5 at 7:38, about an hour and 50 minutes late this morning.

354 was 4 hours late into Pontiac. It seems the delay was west of New Buffalo.

And this morning 351 has not left pontiac yet, 45 minutes late already and counting.

Train 354 struck and killed a pedestrian in Michigan City.

At 11:55 CT, eastbound train empties for Decatur are crossing Trail Creek in Michigan City.

Amtrak 350 was an hour and fifteen minutes late arriving into Pontiac today. It seems it was late departing Chicago.

NS B33 in Jackson working in the yard with NS 3343/NS 3277. Usually departs after 15:00 to head to Battle Creek

NS B22 with NS 6353, an SD40E, is in Jackson as of 12:00 and will head west to Albion.

NS 6137/NS 3329 stayed in Jackson

NS 5272 is the BC local engine today

B22 had eight cars, four boxcars and four covered hoppers, when they departed Jackson for Albion
