You will almost never see sand shipped in open-top hoppers, at least in Michigan.
What railcar would sand be loaded in IF they were in Michigan?
Most of the 2 bay covered hoppers you see on Z151, Z627, M326/327 and L302/303 are sand cars.

So basically the shortest hoppers like the ones used at Buzzi Cement switched by L301. That’s interesting to know 😇. Assumed those 2 bay hoppers were loaded with cement bits.

Buzzi uses a pneumatic unloading system where as the cement terminal that used to be in Holland Michigan and the cement terminal that’s in the Wyoming yard I do belive uses gravity and standard 2 bay covered hoppers.(no pipes)

Note: when the Wyoming operation first began they definitely used gravity with portable conveyors.
Since then I’ve noticed they built a batch plant right on site and I’m not sure what techniques they are using as of 08/08/2022

So far, their timeframe of arrival is between 11:00pm to 7:00am the next day and pushed M327 just few hours after their arrival.

M326-08 probably somewhere in Barr Yard

Sometimes this week, M327 should be pulling 15 CSX hoppers with crushed stone (looks like sand from a distance) that was brought in by L302-08 today.

L303-08 probably annulled tonight due to no L302-07 running. Twas only CSX #6965 in the yard earlier but connected to L301-08 and dropped to Waverly Yard. Not sure where CSX #6518 is at.

L301 currently has CSX 8052 (faces east?) and CSX #2061 (facing west?). I’m curious on the change in L301 engines. Was it due to power, tonnage, no Wying needed, etc? 2 engines easier to pull more cars?

L302 brought in CSX #7784 (faced east) and CSX #7883 (faced west) and had 15 loaded crushed stone in CSX hoppers earlier today at 2pm.

L303-09(?) will have CSX #7883 leading with #7784 trailing.

I have both L301-08 and L302-08 videos if anyone wanna see them. Otherwise, they will be on my channel.

To answer your questions Andy.

CSX 6518 is probably in the Mouse yard, a place where they store yard engines and other engines waiting for assignments. It is not visible from any public area

L301 had the 2061 because they picked it up in Holland after having the 6965 replace it. 8052 will probably stay solo on 301.
