Something came through South Lyon at 21:30… guessing D706, had the radio volume too low.

D706 is in Emergency at Grand Ledge. A child has been struck on the Grand River Overpass. Child appears to be ok, but it looks to be a suicide attempt. Kid got up and walked off limping… source in the field was attempting a drone shot of the Grand River Bridge. Police responding.
Interesting how WNLS left out the most pertinent piece of info related to this story.

Do reporters even do research anymore?

They did say that "It was unconfirmed as to what caused the stoppage." They can't say what the don't know for sure. Doing otherwise is foolish but sometimes they do it and get called out for it. (as they probably should) Now a 'daze' people get upset if you show a picture of the car in a crash...."My brother has a car like that, how can you do that!!!"
So it goes. And now we know the rest of the story from MQT.

All they had to do was ask the police who were on the scene.

EVEN the officers on scene cannot speculate. The Chief or man in charge could but that doesn't mean they would. No one sticks their collective necks out anymore and for good reason. Notice on MLive and other news/tv sites they don't put up pics of the crash or the cause of the fire anymore...(it's still under investigation. TV 8 has a crew on scene, stay tuned for updates)...that never come.

True, no reason to speculate on whether it was a suicide attempt or not, but at the time of the original report, the police were aware of the fact that the train hit a person, and that is why it remained stopped. I suppose they could have been unwilling to share that with the WLNS reporter had they been asked by said reporter.

Only reason why I knew is because the friend I gave the update to called me after it happened and he was waiting for cops. He saw the whole thing.

Kid was sitting criss cross on one of the rails, had his head down and his ears covered with his hands. Crew blew their horn the entire length of the bridge and the kid took the hit. He was wearing a large backpack at the time which is probably what saved him because it was packed full of stuff.

After the train passed his position at the bridge he confronted the kid as to which he said “I didn’t see them”, which is a load of bull. He then crossed the bridge limping while holding his back in obvious discomfort. Cops found him there.

That’s a darn shame, for the kid, the crew and all of the witnesses.
