Have heard numerous times that G:C south of Durand is called OSTN. Just exactly what does OSTN stand for. Thanks in advance.

Dave is correct, Owosso South Turn. I don't know if that's what GLC calls it or if railfans call it that.

There are four main on-train jobs at GLC:

CNTN - Cadillac North TurN - everything north of Cadillac including when they go to TC or Petoskey.
CSTN - Cadillac South TurN - Cadillac south to Clare and back north.
ONTN - Owosso North TurN - Owosso north to Clare and back, also including shuttle jobs to/from Middleton and ZFS.
OSTN - Owosso South TurN - Owosso south to Durand, Ann Pere and Osmer interchanges as well as responsible for the Oakley line.

There are no numerical or additional abbreviations. No XOSTN or ONTN-MT or whatnot. Unit trains are similarly handled as well. If it's a unit potash train for HESR, it is simply OSTN. If it is a unit train out of Oakley, it's OSTN. The only curveball is the Oakley line being served by the OSTN job. When they get back to Owosso and go north to ZFS, the symbol flips to ONTN but the crew remains the same.

Thank you for the information LRF.

Does GLC ever run two of the same jobs at the same time? How about in a day?

Also your Avatar is very creepy even though you seem like an ok guy :)

I’ve had the avatar for over a year but thanks for noticing. I’ll probably put Joel Osteen up next.

They do not run two of the same symbol jobs at the same time. They will run two of the same jobs in one day but using different crews.

Last year they were running one ostn to Osmer and back and one ostn to AP and back, each working Durand on their way to and fro.

OSTN is heading north in Durand at 8:50pm. Didn’t get the engine numbers, but there are three units up front.
